    Re: compression

WOT or not WOT won't affect the readings. That link also has specks of whats low and yours is LOW.

Hows the engine performing with such low readings?

    Re: compression

Did you test it with the engine warm and did you do the test a second time after putting a cap full of oil into each cylinder?

    125 is lower then 8:1.

    Re: compression

Mike what is a good range for 8:5:1 on a 2.0 150-165 each cylinder? I am going to test this weekend just to see how she is fairing. Not sure if you heard or saw but she was kicking out a bit of smoke (coolant leak - oring for the coolant assembly at the back of the head is bad).

How far behind the turbo is your WB o2? I keep frying sensors @ 15".

Yeah thats about right, my 8.5:1 reads right around 155 on each cylinder. I think I heard you talking about that in the trailer on sunday.

I have my WB 02 in my turn down which is just after the bottom of my down pipe. Basically in the same spot in this picture of when I was running a full exhaust.

my motor is 9.5:1 and is 150psi on all 4 on a cold motor closed TB. motor has about 3,000 miles on it. I am using JE Napier piston rings with 0.019" top ring clearnace, and 0.025" second ring clearance. Not sure how much help that will be....

What is it when the engine is warm, because 150 is way low for 9.5:1 which should read 185-190.

    Re: compression

I just did a compression test on my car (4 - 5 cranks per cylinder) and these are the readings that I got (starting from the closest cylinder to the front of the car):

    Cylinder 1: 165
    Cylinder 2: 150
    Cylinder 3: 145
    Cylinder 4: 165

After putting a little bit of oil in the cylinders here are my results:
    Cylinder 1: 205
    Cylinder 2: 200
    Cylinder 3: 200
    Cylinder 4: 193

Yeah I definitely have some leaky rings.

Bassed what do you think? Do I need to check some more stuff out before going with the GT28?

    Re: compression

Damn elevation. I see ~140psi in all cylinders with 8:9:1 cr pistons... I just might bring my cr kit to sea level just so I can see how much I lose up here Mike.

Always test your compression on a warm motor. Re-do your tests and I'm sure you will see a big difference. Not sure if the B5's are the same but in the B6 you need to remove 4 engine management fuses before starting the test.

Ok. I will also have the trailer so if you do break something we can get it to Gregs house.

    Re: compression

I just unplug my fuel injectors and make sure I clear the fuel injector code when I'm done.

My 2.0 (at 30miles) with 9.0:1 compression had 200-210psi in all four cylinders and repeatable. Warm Engine

I'm doing it again this week/weekend now that I have 2,050miles on the motor.

Seems a little high. Could be that your pistons were cut for 9:1 on a 1.8 and your getting more since you are 2.0 liter. I know Lucas had problems with his JE's being higher then what he ordered.

    I hope not.

I will ask BobQ again when I see him this week. He said those numbers sounded right for my engine. I did specify I wanted 9.0:1 CR when I asked him to build me the motor.

    Re: compression

Werd Mike. Doug, what pistons are you using again? Supertechs are 8:9:1. It's got to be your bigger cylinder volume that is causing 200psi since that is a lot for your setup. Bob told me 140-150psi was what I should be making up here with the 8:9:1 supertechs and 83mm bore.

    Re: compression

Well do they make a piston for both the 2 liter and 1.8 liter cranks or is it just 1 pistons. Because if you use a 1.8 piston with the 2 liter crank you will end up with a higher CR. This is one of the reasons JE makes a different piston for the 2 liter crank when used in a 1.8T block.
