Just installed new wheels with 8mm spacers, will 15mm of thread contact suffice?

Just installed my set of 19" Rial Nogaros. In order for them to clear my B5S4 brakes I had to run a 8mm spacer (total offset is now +27mm )

Anyways, I ordered the spacers from a member on here and it came with the "specific" lugbolts. Anyways, IIRC, after inserting the bolt through the wheel, there should be 20mm of thread contact. The bolts that where supplied with my wheels, indeed do have 20mm of thread contact. But the lugbolt that were provided with my spacer only have 15mm of thread contact (after they are through the wheel and 8mm spacer).

So my question is, will only 15mm of thread contact be alright, or is necessary to have 20mm of contact?

You'll be fine. I ran 15mm spacers with about 12mm of thread for over a year with no problems at all. Just re-tighten them 30 or 40 miles after you install them.

It shouldn't be big deal as long as you keep them properly tightened. As a minimum, you should have at least 8-10 turns of the wrench worth of threads.

    Sounds good guys. Thanks.

With my old wheels I had 18mm of thread contact, and the 3mm less had me worried, lol.

As for pics, i didnt really want to post pics until i get the car lowered. Right now I am on Eiback springs and that 1" gap is killing me, lol. Plus I dont own a decent camera. My friends do and I wll probably get with them over the weekend!

From a technical standpoint, in order to achieve the full load-bearing and torque-retaining qualities of a given threaded fastener, the thread penetration depth should at least meet, if not exceed the fasteners nominal od (assuming standard fine thread as in this instance)...

Re: Just installed new wheels with 8mm spacers, will 15mm of thread contact suffice?

So as I log miles onto the car I notice that my steering wheels alot more loose since I put the 19" on and that my whole car seems to "slide" around as I gently rock the steering wheels back and forth. I have never driven on brand new tires before so I have never felt what it is like before they break in.....is it supposed to feel like there is oil or water on the road and the car feeld like it is sliding around.....?

Another thing is, I feel very cautios about taking turn pretty hard in fear of the spacer. Are they seriously prone to falling off or what? Am I being to much of a bitch about this?

Your lack of traction will go away after a few hundred miles and you'll be golden and stop worrying as long as you torqued those wheels well you should be fine.. :)

depends a lot on tires.. i had two sets of BFgoodrich gforce sports and loved them, made the car handle like a go cart.. went to nitto neogens (because of wear) and got the exact same feeling you are talking about... it got better after about 1000 miles but still not as good as before... but it will be better once they break in

...brand new tires definately are a little slick. My advice; thow your car around a little and enjoy it while it lasts
