Hmmm. my cats are out and i need new ones but i rather have them near the bottom for future replacement, you be putting some o2 foolers instead for these down pipes? would the o2 cables reach down there? got to see some pics.

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

right, spacers for the O2 sensors to keep the CELs down to a minimum. for now you can see some pics of the dps as well in 3.0 King's gallery. The ones shown though are for supersprint headers but they are available for stock exhaust mani as well.

sweet I would like the headers too but looks like too much work, I rather get the downpipes that fit in the stock mani, I just pm 3.0 king. my problem is taking off the stock cats no one here would do it, I tried and cant fit my hand through there.

yeah it's a pretty tough swap without a lift. I'm sure it's doable, but no fun with jack stands. I would think most import tuning shops would do it no problem. I've asked two in Chicago area and didn't have any problems putting in catless dps.

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

I rather wait for a more complete kit. While it all sounds nice, I wonder how much performance gain there is.
Some time ago I was considering getting S/C from the King, but I run out of $$$ (girls are higher maintenance than audis).
And then it will make me fail inspections every year. More details please.

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

what do you mean by complete kit? downpipes have not been dyno'd by themselves yet. 3.0 King did notice a good butt dyno response though. I'll dyno my full setup at some point, but the closest one is at least 2 1/2 hours away so I'll likely wait until I'm "done".

What details are you interested in? Do you have a visual cat inspection every year?

i would be interested, but what i am gathering is that it eliminates the cats? i wouldnt pass inspection living in this wonderful money pit new york... visual cat inspections... unless i could find someone who could inspect it for me without caring if cats were there? lol

In NYC we usually have just OBDII inspection for readiness bits and they MAY check your exhaust, other than that, check brakes.
I am curious about the performance numbers, especially on standard engine. I'm still curious about whole turbo setup.

    yes,
yes, but may throw occasional codes. many people are succesful with spacers at the O2 sensor to eliminate CELs, but no guarantees.

If enough people commit to the GB I'll dyno before and after dp install.

I'm not aware of anyone working on a turbo setup for this car

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

As enthusiastic as I am about getting more power from the 3.0, and as much as I know these two guys (3.0 King and Ill 3.0) are trying to help us out, this seems like a ridiculous amount of money for something that will show very very little gain. Sorry guys, but I can't see either of these mods as being very effective and worth the cash unless you are already blown, running headers, and stretching for every last HP. You could prove me wrong with a dyno, but I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you get no more than 15 hp out of this.

These are likely more effective for an s/c application, but there may be benefits for those with a stock 3.0 with blown cats outside of warranty. These would be a cheaper alternative with the potential for more power. The comment about less torque, I don't think that's a fair statement. I will dyno eventually, but again that will just be with the s/c.

I know my cats will go out eventually and since I don't have visual cat inspection, I'm happy to get these downpipes. If I get 15 chp out of them, then great. As for sound, if you're resonated they shouldn't be too loud at all. I'll try to post up a sound clip as well once they go in.

True, my cats a shut and I would probably want to do this, but I worry about any CEL coming on because the O2 sensors, got to do inspections every yr and cops look for that all the time.

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

lots of us 1.8t guys spend $800-$1k on a full exhaust then another $100-$150 for a test pipe for minimal power gains as well... probably about the same, 10-15 hp and the 3.o is known for failing cats just outside warranty, this would be a great option for someone with burnt cats

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

If my cats go bad, then I will get that, but I'm still saving for some power setup. There was a thread not so long ago about a POSSIBILITY of turbo setup (which I doubt will ever happen).
I may just bite a bullet and go for S/C setup (supporting mods first) at the end of the year if nothing new happens.

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

For better power gains, would it be better to go with the latest generation Eaton M-62 SC (with built in intercooler?) than the current one PES is offering?? I believe this one is also used in the new S4.

    http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Produc...iteId=EatonCom

The R1320 model maybe a direct bolt on replacement to the M62.

Whats up D'...yes i agree, IMO the question then would be is the port side of the blower the same to mat the intake done by PES. I would also add that the clearance of the hood would come into play and possible mod to the hood. Then comes the question of getting the car tuned and PES is not my first choice.

Re: Some new performance parts for 3.0 guys

So i'll post one of those heres how ya do it post and then let the flaming begin

Call PES and say can i buy one intake manifold from you and see what they say.(U'll never get one from Tony) Or if you have one take it to a casting shop and see what they charge to replicate it)-$2,000
Call Eaton and order one new M62/cooler.(if your not a dealer you have to go thru one and that will cost more, i'll say $1,500)
Call 3.0 King for custom tune $900-$2000 (car will be driven by tuner and dyno tuned)
That said, any more power gained by the new set up will probably kill your pistons due to the weak cast pistons audi put in the 3.0. My point is as long as your willing to spend then progress is made if not then its all just another here's how you do it thread. Ok i feel better now.

adding power and flow yes, but again! can you afford it $$$. then someone will chim in and list all the reasons not to do P/P. Remember it's not right or wrong its do you want it. IMO Seems to me there are many options for the 3.0 now available its just how far are you willing to go and how much cash are you gonna need because when no one makes shit for this motor you will always pay more and wait twice as long.

That's sound really interesting. I wonder how much it would cost to build up the engine first, I know King did some work like that. What's your price?
