    Whining Fuel Pump/Filter

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know this has been talked about before but I cant find exactly what I was looking for from searching. I just ordered a new fuel filter, Im getting a slight wine from the rear part of the car. My question is arent those of you that have had a bad filter had the whining or noise from the back passenger side of the car? This sounds like its coming right from the trunk where the pump is ... hopefully the filter fixes it, if not 044 pump or whatever the hell it is here I come ... more money spent on the car, yippee

Yeah sounds like it Shawn. When I got bad gas on my way to GA, this happeneded to me. I had it whine for like a month, then changed the filter, it continued for 2 weeks but got quieter as time went by then completely stopped.

034 should be stocking the right pump and hardware kit now. The pump's part number is Bosch 0 580 254 005. I don't care what anyone else is saying, there is no way a real 044 pump will fit, unless you do some modifications to the housing, and even then i'm skeptical.

It's probably just the filter. I took mine to the stealership and they wanted to charge me like $600 to fix the pump and the filter. But I just changed the filter and it fixed the problem.

    Re: Whining Fuel Pump/Filter

my pump died at 60k (never changed filter) called audi who didnt have one and wanted $350 for the pump, called back and acted like i was from enteprise VR (vehicle repair) gave them the vin, "oh yes sir i have one right here, its $189 on wholesale price) got a new pump, filter, and gasket for $225...

i didnt realize how loud my pump had gotten (so gradual i guess) because my new one is perfectly quiet and i dont even hear it prime anymore, i would do filter first, you are getting close to 50k arent u? plus im sure u know our pumps are partially cooled by the fuel so keeping it well above 1/4 helps their lifespan as well

    Re: Whining Fuel Pump/Filter

I had a whining noise coming from the back of my car. I also noticed a significant decrease in power. You had to have the gas pedal floored all the time. I replaced the fuel filter and all those symptoms went away. 130,000miles and I'm still on the original fuel pump but a 2nd fuel filter. I can not remember when I changed the fuel filter. My guess would be probably around 100k.

No reasons to change yet ... A/F is fine so fuel pressure must be good. WHy change something if it isnt broke (or hindering something)

Odd, didn't you post up some logs that showed your AFR lean in the high rpms and you had no idea why?

    Re: Whining Fuel Pump/Filter

I as well had this same winding noise coming from the rear. Changed fuel filter and I have not noticed the noise since then. Did take a couple weeks before the noise was completely gone. But haven't heard it recently anymore.

    Re: Whining Fuel Pump/Filter

My filter was replaced at 35K for whining... I thought it was some type of TSB or recall on the 04' models...

The sound (loud and obnoxious) came from the area behind the passenger side rear tire.

Sounds like a fuel filter, it's hard to pinpoint the sound when it gets really loud, the sounds comes anywhere from the trunk to under the passenger rear door.

    Re: Whining Fuel Pump/Filter

Did it for the first time and it was kind of a pain. I didn't realize how much gas was in that darn thing for one. Also, taking the tubes off the nipples require a push-and-pull motion that i didn't know either.

It did make a nice difference though with the new filter, so worth it
