    Idiot tech guy

    Hey guys,

I'm new here, and I've posted a couple times, but nothing too major. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Eugene, and I've recently purchased a B7 2008 Audi A4. I love the car, but I have one problem. I told the dealer not to put the dealer sticker on the car when they get the car on the lot. Well, of course, they did put it on there. I noticed it upon delivery and kindly asked the salesman if he could get one of the techs to take the sticker off, because I had requested that it not be placed in the first place. He says that he'll get right on it, and when it comes back, there is some clear stuff left on the trunk and he also managed to leave scratches in the trunk that will not buff out with rubbing compound. I just take it home, and heat it up with a heat gun, and it turns yellow, and will not come off. I tried Goo gone, and nothing. Any ideas how to take the yellow goop off and fix the scratches? Thanks.

Wash the car correctly. Then to get any crud off, use a clay bar and appropriate lubricant.

After you clay and all the lubricant is dry, buff it. I'm not sure of how harsh of a pad you'll need.

Then polish/wax and you will be good as new. If you are not that familiar with this kind of detailing, I doubt the dealer will do anything (as that is very minor) so just find someone to "detail" your car and just say you want the trunk lid done or something. $20 or so, I don't know
    Ignorance is bliss.

I've been reading up on claying my car, but I've never tried the process before.

The thought of taking a pad to my car... I'll have to find someone else to do it for me. Changing the oil, cleaning the filter, rotating the tires, those things, I can handle. Paint work scares me a little bit. Thanks for the answer and the quick response.

Yeah, I think you'll be better off paying a little bit if the scratches really bother you.

Not that you can't do it, but to buy materials and spend all the time learning then doing it... I think it would be worth it just to have someone else fix that small of a blemish for you

I'd take the car back to the dealer and demand they fix it. Speak with the General Manager of the dealership. After all, it's their fault you are in this position since you told them not to put the sticker on in the first place. You should not have to pay someone to clean up the scratches and sticker goo when you just dropped some $$ for a brand new car.

This is true, but if their guys can't even remove a vinyl sticker without causing damage I don't know how much more I would want them handling my car If you do go back, make sure to stress your concern for the paint and make sure they are careful.

If you add "customer requests great care be taken to not scratch wheels" or whatever to a work order, the techs usually listen since they know you are ocd and will be inspecting later.

Yeah. After they messed up taking the sticker off, I figured I would just take the car home and do it right myself. Then I noticed the scratches. I'm very anal about my cars, and even when I had my Maxima, I took really good care of it.

My cars are washed, and detailed every weekend, if I have the time. I normally spend about 8-9 hours just cleaning everything.

Regardless of whether you take it to the dealer or not, don't stress it. It's fixable.

+1 all you need to do is get it buffed, quick and easy

just be thankful that's all they did... my center caps on all 4 rims are all deteriorated and yellow here and there from the dealer using some strong wheel cleaner on it along with scratching / swirling my car to hell when i had it detailed a few days before hand... i did tell them not to wash it, but why would they listen... they're doing us the favor!

I've been asking around town a little bit, and I think I'm going to take it to a body shop here in town that I've heard some good things about. Thanks for all the help guys.
