It just cranks and cranks but no start

Its a 2000 S4 with 124k miles. Was in a collision which damaged the passenger front door, passenger bolster airbag and side curtain were deployed. Original ECU has REVO software and thought maybe it was a problem with that so I got another A-Box with GIAC X software with no results. Car will just crank and crank but while cranking everything will get a power loss and then continue to crank till it does it again. Here are the codes that I got from a scan.

I checked the engine speed sensor which is above where the driver side axle goes into the tranny and it wasnt disconnected or anything.

Would the air bags being deployed cause it not to start?

I also ran an output test and it came up with injectors 1-6 short to ground. Not really sure what the output test does. Any help as to where I should start looking?

    Thanks!

the speed sensor itself is bad or the crank sensor--See up there where it says voltage to low-- most likely bad--

Is there a way to test them or just replace both the speed sensor and crank sensor?

The speed sensor is the one at the drivers side axle location correct? What avout the crank sensor, where is it?

    thanks!

Hey man.. Yes the car is up and running right now! Problem was with the Crank Sensor at the top of the bell housing near the drivers side turbo. Replaced it and the car started right up.. Are you having similar problems?

My car does the same symtoms (crank, crank, crank but after a while got finally started)

My car did that 2 times in a week and one other time, the car shutted off while I was cruising at like 20 km/h just after a startup.

    But, i don't have the 16705 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28) code, only 18010 - P1602 Power Supply (B+) Terminal 30: Low voltage (Sporadic)

My battery voltage is good and the battery haven't been disonnected for a while ...
I cleared it and the code came right back away ...

Any ideas ? Is it my Speed or crank sensor too ?

    Thanks !

Keep an eye out for engine coolant temp sensors going out too, causing issues with starting.

This can cause a no start? I'm currently in same situation and remember seeing temp sensor at 130c when it's 20 degrees f out

Engine coolant temp sensor yes. If the coolant temp sensor is relaying incorrect data to the ECU(ie car doesn't know the cold coolant temp on a cold start), then the fuel inj's won't spray enough fuel, and engine will just crank and crank and crank. This could be an intermittent situation as well, since they're electronics.

Are you talking about exterior/ambient coolant temp sensor? Issues with this will make your HVAC do all sorts of wacky things.

I was using vagcom and was flickering through reading and didn't think anything of it, I'll have to check it again and see if the reading is pegged still. Thanks

Can't thank you enough, was just going to get it towed to the shop I work at tomorrow but now I don't have to. Checked coolant temp was at 269 F, disconnected it and It instantly dropped to -40F. Fired right up!!!!! The problem did start ever since the 15F weather came about this week. Again thanks for the tip

Awesome, I'm glad I could help. Is your current ECT sensor black or green? All black's have updated to green.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

yeah it was green but gypsie who owned it previously used silicone to seal it instead of the o ring casuing it to leak into senor connector
