    Re: Smart Key Litigation

I got my letter, I think they will lose the lawsuit...

There are multiple third party solutions for the programming of keys, the dealer is not the only option.

The courts will determine the VAG has the best interest of the consumer and security protection of VAG automobiles, this is one of the reasons they are low on the theft lists since 2001 (when the smart key was introduced).

VAG also has worldwide patents on the technology used in the immobilizer system and revamps the program every three years to keep it current.

Of course in America, you can sue for any and everything.

All they gave us is paper to put in the manual and that's about it. I called two local shops and their prices were the same as dealers.
No gains for customers, another stupid "class action suit"

    Re: Smart Key Litigation

Personally I think the whole law suit deal is BS, but the letter on the other hand, I think it's great. Though I'm a business owner who has forked out almost 12 large to get set up with the OE system. I've been getting tons of calls in the last few days from VW owners asking me if I can "program" new keys. Some were getting pissy when they find out I still have to charge to do so, eventhough I charge less than the dealer. Others were getting pissy when I told them about the downside of cheap chinese keys from Ebay.
I think the start of the law suit stemed from the fact that some dealers were gouching people to "program" keys when all this immobiliser stuff was still somewhat new.

Put it this way, if you do nothing, and they win, you get some kind of coupon and rebate, whether you threw it away or not provided, your address is current with Audi. They only way you would lose out is if you called the number and ask not to be included. You would only really want to do this, if you plan to sue Audi on your own and get your own damages.

    Re: Smart Key Litigation

Sorry, just read the stipulations of the section II. Settlement. There is nothing monetary or rebate for us, owners. It is merely a stupid cop out of VWGoA to agree to provide us key service until 2013, ( keep in mind that the Mayans, through their calendar believes that the end of the universe as we know it will happen 12/23/2012. so were F-ed...Oh that Audi and Volkswagen will provide owners information on how to get a duplicate immobilizer and transponder and key...yada, yada, yada...dumb, waste of court room time!

Me too. I couldnt be bothered.

If the suit was for Audi's decision to humor us with the performance of the stock 1.8T, I'd be all over it
