    After-run pump replacement question:

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is it prudent to replace all the connecting hoses too or is it unnecessary? If so, where would I purchase everything I need? Also, what clamps are used to attach everything and do I need to get those too or are the stockers reusable?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Re: After-run pump replacement question:

Unless the other hoses are torn or feels brittle, you shouldn't have to replace them. Regarding the spring clamps, some people reuses them, but I would recommend having them replaced. The last thing you want is to go back in due to a leak from a bad clamp, it is simply not worth the savings.

    Re: After-run pump replacement question:

I find that generally the hoses, the front hose in particular, will be the main source of the leak (probably because of the clamp though) and the pump itself is generally leaking minorly. I always install nice euro style clamps. The ones using the 7mm screw. One of my biggest pet-peeves to see domestic style hose clamps on these cars Unfortunatly many parts places don't have them. Would also be a good time to replace the breather hose assembly as well, though it will likely break or crack anyways during disassembly.

Any idea what size these clamps are, where I can buy them, and where I can purchase the replacement hoses? I just want to get all my ducks in a row before I start this little project.

    Re: After-run pump replacement question:

In my case I woould be getting the stuff from World Pac, but they're a wholesale distributor. That's most likely the place where companies like ECS and the such are buying parts from. That'd be for the hoses, pump, and breather hose as well. As for the clamps, I just have an assorted set from Wurth, which gets replenished periodicaly. Though World Pac also sells some of those style along with the swedish (the ones with the blue) style of clamp. You'd be looking for a 20 - 32mm size clamp, well, 4 of them.
You could probably go any import shop within you're area with a World Pac account to get the stuff. They'll be able to pull up pictures and order online. That or the dealer if a shop is not willing to sell you parts and just use regular clamps from a parts store. Sometimes, some of the local parts stores will also have an account with World Pac. Like the little Mom and Pop Franchise Napa or the like. Maybe call around and ask if they can buy out stuff from World Pac. Actually, most dealers also have accounts with Worl Pac as well. Dealers can get stuff cheaper from them for the older stuff.....LOL

Pump - Bosch #, not OE number

    Hose

Breather Hose (assuming the last six of your VIN are 053001 or higher, should be if it's an "01.5")
    078 103 235R
Intake Manifold Gasket (Victor Reinz or Erling, you'll need two of those)
    078 129 717N
    World Pac's Clamp #
    20-32/9

The Pump and breather Hose are a little spendy but the rest is cheap.

Peer down with a flashlight right under the IM. You should see the leak on the hose heading towards the front of the car, as well as some junk right around the pump.
