I can't get it back on. It has a ball and socket type connector. The ball being other part stuck on the window and the mirror has the socket/female type connector on it.

It appears that when you push it on that the ball part is too big but somehow it came off very easy. Is there a secret to this?

look at the "male" part attached to the windshield... i bet it is "keyed" by not being a perfect circle, more than likely have a flat side, or possibly two... line it up right on the mirror, then when it is in position, you will probably have to spin the entire mirror assembly to get it to "click"

It is keyed meaning flat on each side. I can turn it all day long it won't go in any farther. looking at hte back of the mirror it doesn' matter if it is upside down or anything. it just won't go. From the mirror side it looks like a perfect circle meaning there is no where the flat spots could go.

does it matter if the bottom lever is in the out of in position? the thing that you move when someone is highbeaming you. One position pushes it inside the mirror more adn the other one makes it stick out.
