B5 Transmission Upgrade options. IPT Tranny?

What are the options we have being manual B5 owners for tranny upgrades? I want to get a beefed up tranny that will hold some good power and take some abuse. I am on my second tranny and it is starting to go south. I was thinking about doing the common 2.8L swap this time but i want to get something that will be stronger. Looked into a S4 tranny swap and that doesn't intrest to me since they break too. Here is a link to a tranny I was looking at getting, but was wondering if there are any other options out there.

    http://www.importperformancetrans.com/vwmanual.shtml

Before anyone gets on the "search" wagon I already tried and didn't find much.

So is anyone running this tranny or know of any other options? thanks all for the input

There isn't much of an upgrade out there since the trannies are pretty solid. Mike Hood runs a stock tranmission (used both stock 1.8T and 2.8 tranmissions) with stock axles on his 600+ whp car and didn't bust them. Looks like that company you posted is solid but the price is high.

Bump for JHM, as they know how to break 'em, and how to keep 'em from breaking. Great products.

Have also heard only positives from 1.8T's who have changed to the 2.8 gearing.

Stasis will also rebuild and upgrade your tranny for $2899, throwing in the High-Bias Torsen...food for thought if you are sinking money into a rebuild.

Stasis is a bit expensive, even if they make good stuff, and the High-Bias Toresen is like a $120 diy mod now thanks to k0mpressed.

Re: B5 Transmission Upgrade options. IPT Tranny?

Hmm, I thought that Stasis was cheap since IPT at the top of the thread was quoting almost $5,000 for their transmission, sans the upgraded Torsen (ouch)...will check out the k0mpressed DIY, as would love to do that to mine.

Lucas and I think that cost him way more then doing a 01E which he had before going with the B6 S4 6 speed.

As for the 01A, make sure you get one from the 2000-2001 seeing that they seem to be a bit stonger. Most of the big hp guys that have blown their 01a trans were all running ones from the ndbw cars. I have put both my 1.8 and 2.8 trans thru hell at the drags for the last 8 years.

Re: B5 Transmission Upgrade options. IPT Tranny?

Thanks for the info, Any recommendations where to get a 2000-2001 2.8L transmission in really good condition? I bought a 1.8L tranny that is in the car now from a tranny company off ebay and it grinds 3rd after 1 month of abuse. So i want to get a good quality tranny this time, maybe a rebuild one??? any advice? thanks

Are you using a good gear oil? Might also want to use Redline Shock along with good gear oil.
