    cluster upgrade

    I purchased a 2000 cluster with the FIS panel out of a 2.8 with the digital clock. in my 99.5 1.8QM I have the analog clock and dummy lights, I read previsouly that the 99.5-01 clusters were interchangeable so I was hoping for a quick plug-in and vag-com reset . However it seems that the harness for the middle connector is different. I'm not scared of electrical work but I simply don't know what to do in order to make it work. Does anyone know of a DIY or someone I could talk to in order to complete this, or are they just too dissimilar? The LCD seems to not have any dead pixels, and does partialy work so I'd like to try to keep it, the speedo works, so do the fuel, voltage, and coolant gauges however the tach is complelty dead as well as the oil temp. Is this typical of the middle connector not pluged in? Also, I noticed that there was a line that seperates the top 1/3 or so of the lcd from the bottom it's not lit-up what-so-ever it's also visable slightly at the correct angel with the right lighting when the unit is off, is this normal or is this a completly dead line? The person I purchased it from said it had a "perfect" screen so I'd like to know if this is true or not soon so I can be re-imbursed..
    I included some pictures to show the different connectors, the grey slot is the one from the new cluster, the black from my 1.8

    Re: cluster upgrade

    after 4 hours of searching I have located my answer;
    the conversion from analog clock to digital/FIS module clusters is possible with a complete engine harness replacement which has the necessary modual for the newer cluster. the "grey" connector is the newer version of the cluster and the black being the older version.

    *since* this is too much work for me I'll be selling it soon, as the only thing the FIS module is good for atm is displaying "engage clutch to start engine".
    Thought I'd post my findings incase someone else tries this.
