looking at a 1996 A4 2.8

Looking for a little project car and i found this

1996 a4 with 210,000 miles drove the car every day, I believe car spun a bearing still will run but has loud engine noise. 5spd quattro green, hood and fender both have dents. $1000

since its a 1996 am i right that this is a 12v V6? also any idea as to the loud noise could it really be a spun bearing or something else. me thinks that if a bearing has spun that there might have been oiling issues which means its a full rebuild either way or at least a newer motor. thoughts on it? hell maybe i'll just buy it and part it who knows im going to go look at it later on this week.

yes its the 12v v6, IMO not really worth rebuilding a so "out of date engine" anyway that doesnt have many performance options anyway. you'd be better off just buying a car that runs and drives.

not sure, and even if so your not looking at big power gains.

not looking for power gains it just the 30v is easier to find if i want power it wil be supercharged for now im just looking for a cheap car to do some custom work on. i have a passat and a B7 A4 so i know the usually problems that come up with an A4 and i know a little bit on the 30v not so much on the 12v.
