Exclamation (Podi/VEI) Oil temperature sender... (in progress at the moment) where to install?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my pops and I are looking to install my Podi/VEI gauge (with boost/vac and oil temperature) but are at a loss to find a suitable location to install the oil temperature sender in the block of the engine.

The instructions on Podi.ca, VEI's website and A4 mods didn't help with that specific problems, so after I STFA and found nothing, I'm looking for help.

    What to do?

    Cheers,

    D.

    EDIT

Also, we noticed that the supplied 2.5" aluminum bracket will not fit inside the plastic housing (Podi) and have decided to use glue instead... when the time comes. Winston, you may want to look into modifying the Podi for that purpose. Not sure if it's a unique VEI conflict or not, but if you're sourcing the part... might as well use it.

You remove the bracket and toss it away. Then use a 1" strip of black electrical tape on the body of the VEI gauge to help wedge it into the opening. That's what I have done to hold the gauge in place.

For the oil temp sender location we installed mine where the OEM sender is and used a Y split to hold both the new sender and the OEM one.

Okay sounds good. The gauge fits perfectly, though I'm going to use a dab of glue rather than tape for attaching the gauge to the pod.

More specifically, I'm wondering about the exact location for the oil temp sender itself. Can you show me?

When you say Y-splitter, do you mean a plastic housing, or a metal one? It would seem somewhat Mickey Mouse to just let this temperature gauge to go through a junction then into the block... is there not a place where we can plug it into independently? Or do I need to procure a fitting not initially supplied?

Also, I will need more 20 gauge wiring to complete this specific install (boost/oil temp), no?

    Trust me on the tape.

You stick it on one side of the body, then twist the gauge in for a friction fit and it isn't going to go anywhere. Glue will work but considering the temperature drop where you are the glue might freeze up and break off.

Considering how many of these units I have sold I am sure other people have installed their oil temp senders somewhere that was easily accessible.

I'll try and remember to take a picture of where they mounted my temp sender.

They used an aluminum Aeroquip branch fitting and bored it out a bit so the VEI temp sender would screw in properly in one arm and the OEM temp sender into the other arm and then reinserted it back into the OEM oil temp sender location.

    Hope that made sense.

For the oil temp you just need to supply a single wire for the signal.

The boost sender I connected right to the gauge and ran the vacuum line right to it.

I'm kind of hamstrung without a picture here. With a photo I can make a much better description to the person who I'll be buying the fitting from.

Also, it's disappointing that I get this kit and expect it to be a plug'n'play install but have to stop halfway through because all the required parts aren't included. If there had been a forewarning to begin with at least, I could have gathered the parts before I begun. So now the car has to roll around half-done and wait on my lack of free time or business hours.

Sorry man... totally forgot to get you the pics.

I just took 4 with my cellphone and I'll upload them when I get home. It'll show you how I have mine setup.

Here are the pics. Yes... the NON-autofocus camera on a Nokia E51 sucks badly.

To give you an idea of where you are looking at the pictures are taken between intake runners #2 and #3

You see the Aeroquip fitting (blue), the VEI sender (top with the wire) and the OEM temp sender (sticks out 90deg)
