5000 mile "service" just an oil change?

Hi,

My dealer told me to come back for the 5000 mile service. I have yet to have an oil change & am headed for 5k. Can I go to the local oil change shop or do I need to goto a dealer?

Synthetic oil?

pretty sure it's just an oil change and they do use synthetic. i think you have to bring it to the dealer so they have a record of performing required maintenance. otherwise they might try to use that against you for future warranty items.
there is a log in your manual that they use to mark when each service interval is completed.

Go to dealer. Its a free service. they do a check over, rotate your tires, and oil change complimentry. Never go to a Quick Lube. Either do it yourself or have a dealership do it. And always Synthetic Oils.

bye bye warranty? are u sure? i go to school in bumble fuck stockton ca and the closest dealership is in sac i dont have time to take it up there so i got my 5k. and 10k oil change done at a small shop around here that specializes in German cars and then I called the dealership from which i purchased my car and told them that and they said its totally cool the real first big service is at 15k so im cool....whats this warranty business ur talking about sanj?

audi requires that you get all regularly scheduled maintenance performed by them. 5k 15k 25k, so on.
if you don't they can refuse to fix stuff under warranty because you didn't do the required check ups.
i doubt they really would play that card, but it says pretty clearly in the owners manual that that's how it goes.

Im going to the dealer. Is it paranoid of me to think my local dealership wont do a good job on my A4 because I didnt buy it from them (they were very overpriced for the new car price)?

what he said and the first scheduled maintenance is probably the most important one because of the "break-in" of the engine... talk to your dealership and ask... they may give you a more direct answer... and confirm with them or their manager as well.

I had mine done this morning (at 4,700 miles) and this is what it says in the paperwork:

Perform 5,000 mile service.
Maintenance Service.
5,000 miles Service Performed As Per Audi Maintenance List.

My '08 B7 3.2MT went in for its first (5000 mile) service a couple months ago. I bought the AUDI service package with the car but the first one was free anyway.

They indeed rotated the tires and the oil used was a Castrol synthetic (0w-40) lubricant.

They also washed the car, swept it out and cleaned the windows.

The oil used buy the dealer will always meet the VW Spec and most of those (apparently not all) are full synthetic products like Castrol (original fill) or Mobil 1 or equivilents that meet the spec.

The 'service reminder' will be set at 10K miles intervals after each visit but it is up to you whether you want your oil changed at 3/5K, then they'll just set the reminder at 10k therafter.
Under normal driving conditions and if your car isn't modified whatsoever, the 10k oil service should be fine. I have a regular subcompact and I change my oil every 4-5K miles, of course I don't drive like a maniac either and my cars are bare-bone stock!

Im a bit confused, without buying a service plan, they gave me a free 5K oil change. Are there other free services, or is that one it?

I thought if you didnt go for the 5K (and other services), that it could void your warranty.

Correct me if I am wrong.

To my understanding, the 5K service is free. If your Audi is model year 2006 or earlier, the maintenance required up to the 4 year / 50 K warranty was also included (just like BMW). Any 2007 or newer vehicle does not come with the maintenance included, except the 5K service.

How much should a 15K service cost (or whatever the next one is)?
