Boxer fracture question.(broken 5th bellow knuckle) anybody familiar with this?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
after 3 weeks oh having this injury i realized that i have this lump at the broken spot. And that possibly my knucle depressed a litle bit (or it looks diffreant since its close to the lump) after reading this it made me wonder if my knucle is depressed will the bone streight itself up?

A bony lump may appear at the fracture site as the bone heals and is known as "fracture callus". This is a normal part of the healing process and usually gets smaller over 6–12 months.

Little finger droop – it often takes 6-8 weeks for the little finger to fully straighten.

Hah, firstly, this is going to get moved.

But secondly, I had the EXACT same thing happen about four months ago while hitting a bag with bare knuckles (drunk, stupid). My hand was purple for three days and I had just what you describe. It will be painful for quite sometime; but I'm 100% now and the lump has shrunken to barely anything. Good luck! Should have iced it!

i had a boxer fracture before.

the lump is not necessarily a depressed knuckle, it is simply an immune response due to the presence of the fracture (assuming you really have one, which you probably do.)

i immediately took it to a doctor for treatment ... it can lead to future pain in the area if it heals improperly ... mine was placed in a cast along with a metal splint to heal it correctly in place.
    i love you

    true^^^

the bone will not straighten itself out. it will heal the way it sits now.
basically think of the swelling as wet cement, once the swelling turns into a bony callus, your bone will remain crooked.

go to a radiologist or the radiology dept. in a hospital to have it better examined.

if you are the type that would refuse surgery (if its as bad as it seems), then wrap it as best possible and hope for the best. ice is recommended.

I had one of these from when I boxed at UNLV. Whole hand front and back around knuckle area was black for 3 weeks (Stupid Drunk Bare Knuckle, as well) I left it for two years and it would on occassion get smaller and larger and even move a little.
When it was large it would be painful with full extension of my wrist.
I had it removed after two years and it has never come back.

    Doctors fee $900.00 Anaesthesiologist $1,300.00.
The thought of getting it free if i had private Health=priceless, pun intended.

Re: Boxer fracture question.(broken 5th bellow knuckle) anybody familiar with this?

I had a boxer's fracture myself 10 years ago... not drunk but stupid, got pissed because i was backing my car into a parking spot and heard a crunch, got out and noticed my muffler lying on the ground... stood up and punched a street sign (yeah, they hit back, hard... even worse was the fact that AFTER i punched the sign, i realized it was just knocked off one of the exhaust hangers, awesome)... the next day, woke up to a balloon for a hand, my mother MADE me go to the hospital... two pins and about 4 months later, all was well... 6 months later was in basic training for the Marine Corps... doesn't hurt anymore but, i can still "feel" (with my other hand) where it was broken...

it may be too late if its been a while but, if its only been a few days you should go to the doctor and get it fixed... beware, its gonna hurt because if it isn't "set" correctly, he'll have to rebrake it and reset it... not a fun process

it will heal but it will heal the way it is, had the same thing and didnt get it fixed now i gotta deal with this shit on a daily basis. it will not get better unless you do something about it. since it has been 3 weeks it proble isnt minor, cause if it was you would be seeing improvements on its own within the same time period.

Makiwara training will allow the bones in your hand to become more dense and your skin and joints to toughen so that you can strike hard objects without reprise. you can literally turn your hands into rocks.

If you ever see martial artists who break bricks, cinder blocks and boards without hurting their hands, it is because they used makiwara training to build up their hands density.

Sounds painful. I didn't know we were qualified to make a medical diagnosis here in the Audi B7 Forum. I'm not a real doctor, but here in the B7 forum, I'd suggest an X-ray.

You need to go to an orthopedist to straighten the bone out otherwise it will be susceptible to the same fracture in the future. I've had the injury twice in the same place because of this and they had to surgically align it the second time around. Not fun.

Yeah this injury sucks. Had the same thing happen, but didn't have it surgically aligned, its not a big deal but can cause a dull ache from time to time, very minimal though.
