SO i was checking out superbrightleds.com and saw a h11 led replacement fog bulb for our a4. just curious if anyone has these and how they work. Though about removing the foglight house and putting black mesh in the hole to feed more air to the intercooler, not sure if it would benefit but it would seem as if more ait would get to the ic. thought it might look cool.

i curious about this too. do we have indicators on our foglights? i.e. would we have to put a resistor?

You would most likely need a resistor on that yes.

    Re: LED foglights

beware of any LED replacement for an OEM filament bulb... they tend to get a bit hotter than everything else and can melt the plastic...

i had a set of LED license plate bulbs a friend of mine gave me for hardwiring his V1 and this week i started getting the DIS for "number plate light", one of them stopped working, than the other...
after i took them out, i noticed some "shiny plastic" that was warm to the touch... didn't like the way it looked so decided to ditch them for OEM again...

I thought that LEDs produce less heat or none, not more...

    Re: LED foglights

ya superbrightled says that they produce alot less heat. I know wattage doesnt matter when concerning leds but they says it is a 1 watt led fog light and will run at a much cooler temperature than an oem fog will.

    this is the info:
Get the Cool Blue HID Xenon look with cool running, long lasting Solid State LED replacement DRLs

    HB4, H11, H7, H4, and H3 replacements use a High Power 8000K White LED that draws just 30ma (0.030 Amp) @ 12VDC

    Re: LED foglights

you would need a resistor because we do have a indicator if fog light goes out

    Re: LED foglights

Ok. simple. Let me tell you , since i'm an LED freak :)))
I have those bulbs, and they suck. It's not even Super Flux LED they use in it. Forget the resistor, when the bulb itself doesn't produce enough light.
Waste of money, please don't !!!! Wait, the technology goes pretty fast. As soon as they will add a small lense , or something like that it would start look like a bulb, but so far ...... :(((((

    Re: LED foglights

LEDs watt-per-watt do run cooler than a standard incandescent bulb. True. In this case you have a number of small LED lamps running at maximum power placed close together so the heat is concentrated. This can cause higher perceived heat when compared to the equivalent filament bulb; however for equal brightness the heat expelled will be less.

You'll also run into a higher than usual heat problem with LEDs if they are not resisted properly. If not properly resisted you will essentially be "burning" the LEDs.

I consult for an LED display manufacturer and have this information at my disposal.

Properly resisted, and with the proper firing angle (LEDs have directional light vs the omni-directional of incandescent bulbs) you can do a lot more with LEDs in any application than you can with a halogen bulb, even in a car. As the costs come down the possibilities become greater (as with almost everything).

    haha!

..just using the word "resisted" makes me laugh.
