tirerack.com has a huge variety of all season tires. You should check them out.

    guessing, 235/40r18?

Believe it or not, there is snow in Arizona, just in the higher elevations.

SInce you care more about tread life than handling....

    Conti ProContacts are fine.

Though I am curious about the Kumho ECSTA Lx Platinum myself....

The Platinums are brand new for us, but I had a chance to drive on them (wet track) last week and was VERY impressed. I'm not sure that they would make it to the 60K mileage warranty, but I'd expect at least 45K out of them.

Sorry for more OT.... but based on the initial experience, how are they compared to the Pirelli P6 4-seasons? Kumho's website isn't that descriptive--- are they considered to be Low Rolling Resistance tire?

The Kumho is not a low rolling resistance tire from what we have seen (but no one publishes resistance numbers anyway, so no real way to tell). I drove on the V rated P6 tires and they were pretty much identical to the Kumho in terms of traction and road noise.

    Hey Doc,

Heard any good/bad things bout the Kumho ECSTA Lx Platinum in light/medium snow/slush? These will be going on a 01 S4 225/45 17 as FYI.

    Thanks.

We just got the LX this summer, so no first hand experience in snow. Based on the design of the tread, I would assume that they would be OK up to around 2 inches or less of snow.
