RSS Feeds - What's the deal?

The software running this board supports RSS feeds in it's latest version. I would like to know if/when you guys plan on enabling it. I have checked before and when I tried to use it, I always get a error message that the feature isn't set up yet.

It would be super helpful for me and I know that others have asked for this in the past but never got a really good answer. Everyone keeps saying they are working on it but there is no release date.

What's the verdict? Is it something you are enabling or not?

We've simply had other/higher priorities, such as the all-new Audizine Classifieds. It's still on the to-do list.

Re: RSS Feeds - What's the deal?

I saw the new classifieds... definitely going to take some getting used to. Although it looks much more powerful than a normal forum setup for classifieds.

Back to the RSS feeds though. Some of those threads are from 2005. That's over three years ago, if you folks need help setting that up let me know. I would be willing to lend a hand to get everything up and running for you guys. I currently do both php and .net development for other automotive companies such as Ford & Jaguar/Land Rover so getting the ball rolling on that would be a quick thing.

Re: RSS Feeds - What's the deal?

Yes we do realize it's not a terribly difficult thing, and we understand that it's been requested for some time, but it really does come down to priorities. For the past seven plus years Audizine has been a hobby for us. For me personally, that has just recently changed. We now have a bigger team than ever before, with a collective knowledge and experience that we've never had. This, coupled with the fact that I'm devoting more of my time and energy to Audizine than ever, will definitely lead to some major changes around here. More things will be getting done, and done faster. RSS integration is at the top of that list.

Re: RSS Feeds - What's the deal?

I just tried it out. Everything seems to be working great with it when you are subscribing to individual forums or the main feed. One item that does not seem to be functioning correctly is the titles of the feeds from the classifieds section.

    In particular:
    http://www.audizine.com/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=12
    &
    http://www.audizine.com/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=20
    both show up as Audizine

Another item which I am not sure is possible with this particular software package you are using for the site is being able to subscribe to a particular thread and not the whole forum. Honda-Tech.com is an example of a site which allows you to subscribe to one thread in a forum (but they are using a completely different software package for forums).

As a work around I can (and do) still always use e-mail notifications to see new items posted on a particular thread.

Re: RSS Feeds - What's the deal?

When you're in a particular thread (such as this one), at the top there is a link called "Thread Tools". Within there should be a "Subscribe to this Thread" option. Is this what you're talking about?

Yes. I currently use that to stay up-to-date on particular topics like this one. I am not sure if there is a way to offer that same functionality in an RSS feed or not though with this type of software.

Ah, gotcha. I believe I've seen this question asked on vB's official forum, and I don't think there is at the moment.
