    BT build question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I started my BT build today at my fathers shop, it's on a lift and I had a wide variety of tools at my disposal. I started at 9am and stopped at about 2 pm. During this time I tore down the front end, installed my Racetec FMIC and removed the Ko3 with the stock manifold. I left to go to work and my father continued working on the car and he called me at 3 stating that I was missing an exhaust manifold gasket, my question is do I need one? I never ordered one because I could of swore that some of the BT guys said you did not need one. My dad will not continue the build until I find one and he will not let me reuse the old one. Could I grab one from the local Audi dealer? I'm using the 034 motorsports manifold with a GTRS so the gasket would be the same as stock I assume? Please chime in guys, I'll be working on my car again at 8am tomorrow and I need to know if in fact I need one. Thanks for any help in advance. Pics to come tom.

    Re: BT build question

It's definitely one of those things they urge you to change every time you loosen the manifold bolts. I got one with my 034 manifold through the classifieds and the guy said it cost him $48 at the VW dealership. There didn't seem to be anything to special(like crush washers) about it but I had no doubts about replacing it because the old one looked like shit. If I where you I would replace it to save yourself the hassle of removing the whole mani again because of a stupid exhaust that could have been pre-emptively fixed.

    Re: BT build question

If two surfaces are machined perfectly flat no gasket is required

Your engine has been through many heat cycles with the current exhaust mani gasket correct? If so, replace it. I even replaced mine on my last build and it only had 1500 miles on it...

Exhaust manifold to head should use a new gasket every time.

    Re: BT build question

so you are talking about the gasket between the turbo and mani? If so yes you need a new one and you can get it an Audi or VW dealer. I got one from a VW dealer (same as Passat) for I think less than $10
