    Exclamation Brake Weirdness

I can't figure this one out. Recently my brakes have started getting really squishy, usually only when coming to a full stop at a light or stop sign. Then they return to normal. It feels as though every light I hit my break lines spring a leak and my pedal goes to the floor. Then when I get going again and test them a bit, they feel completely normal.

This afternoon I started hearing a scraping noise up around my front-right caliper, which I have a feeling is related.

I'm going to take that wheel off and investigate a bit tonight, but I have zero knowledge/experience with brakes so I can't for the life of me diagnose this. Any recommendations on what I should be looking at or looking for?

Have you been driving on squealing brakes for a long time? You could have driven through your pads and damaged your caliper to the point that the piston is leaking or something.

Look for scored rotors, worn pads etc. A healthy pad should be fairly thick - including the metal backing, maybe up to 3/4" or more.

I'm pretty sure it's not worn pads, they've been completely silent until the front right one today. I'll take a closer look tonight just to be sure though.
