Here is my contribution. It seems most people only took pics of the AZ tents and a few cars in the exhibition area...

RS wheels should never be on a post mk3 BUT on very very rare occasions some mk4s pull off the look in my opinion... RS wheels on mk5 just doesn't right and I have a friend who has a mk5 w/RS wheels lol

btw those 2 dubs with moonbeam type of wheels (1st mk5, 2nd pic and 1st mk4 listed) are hideous with those wheels. the flat blue mk4 looks good EXCEPT for that bastardization and the mk5 i upchucked the 1st time i saw it in a pic.

I disagree. I think RS or RM's look awesome on any car. There was even a B6 a4 with them and it looked great.

to me the black MK5 with the BDA smoothies was my car of the show. Executed perfectly and smooth as hell.

different tastes and opinions are what makes the VAG scene unique and interesting

No they don't and I think RS's are classic wheels but I've told him before, the wheels look great on his car, but I'ld do something.... newer school. It is a mk5 anyhow but I hear he's going a different route now. To me RS and RM wheels belong on mk1, mk2 and some mk3 (if the rest of the car pulls off the look). when you get into mk4 and mk5 rocking them... it's hit or miss and most of the time it's missing it

But that's just me, I'm more old school when it comes to dubs and all that counts is if Rui likes it.

Are you talking about this one?

Different strokes for different folks... I think it looks hideous and a continuation of the bastardization of the scene that originated from the mk4 crowd of everyone trying to oneup everyone by 'euro-ifing' their whip. Maybe in person it looks decent but from all the pictures and ever since the 1st one I saw I just thought 'why?!' It's not like the car is overdone either, I just think the wheels killed it. Again, different strokes for different folks... I personally don't like it but if the owner does that's all that counts anyways

Yes, thats the one. I love it. Completely original. I have never seen a one off set of forged smoothies on anything before. Its not overdone at all, which makes it even better in my opinion. Having only bags, unique wheels, a euro bumper, and jetta chrome bits while being able to make such an impact means a well executed car to me. Calling it a "bastardization of scene" may be a wee bit over the top and dramatic but you seem to be a little more involved than me.

What I thought was a great comparison was this MK5 to the Beetle that VW is using in their marketing campaign. They should add this car for a new school vs. old school flavor...

See all it really has that's original is the wheels which are only complimented by some massive dunkage and the wheels alone I can't stand. To each his own though... Bastardization to me is the wheels... to me they are gawdy as fuck. I'ld rather rock teddy bear wheels than those... ok maybe not that far lol

The rest of the car is decent, a lot more chrome then I like which is 1 direction with VW I don't like, the excessive chrome. But this car pulls it of fairly decent... just them wheels... I just upchucked again

I get it though, he's going for the old beetle look with the wheels, but it's a golf based platform trying to be retro for a different car class... to me it's like vette wheels on dubs, it just doesn't look right. Might look OK but to me it's out of place. Those wheels would work better on a new beetle dunked to shit... like that bbs lm widebody one that's pretty hot and is from the tristate area, if he rocked those wheels = ZING! but I still am not a fan

Hey, we do agree on some things! Those BDA's would look sick on a dumped beetle and I cant stand vette wheels on dubs. I have recently seen chevy hubcaps as well. Why?
