The obvious answer is that something is loose and is shifting back and hitting the trunk or something. Check places like the spare tire well and see if someone left a bowling ball in there instead of a spare tire. Other than that, what do you have in the trunk or in the cubbies on either side of the trunk that could cause the noise? Another option is fold your rear seats down and have someone drive the car for you to reproduce the sound while you lie in the back to see if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

i think it's normal. I believe it has something to do with rear differential or something like that... when i drive out of my sub div accelerating in the morningi hear the "boom" from the back. my old car did the same. You only hear once right?...

Are you sure? Those dealerships will do anything to make a sale at a profit.

    Re: weird noise when accelerating

You shouldn't be having any thumping sounds that is normal. you should have it looked at. I had a thumping sound and they traced it to the engine mounts. The front 2 hydraulic engine mounts had gone bad causing the rear tranny mount to crack. Therefor making a thump upon acceleration.

Note: my sound was from near the front of the car. But it may help you source your thump. Good luck. Check the tranny mounts for cracks.
