Final ??? on lowering and wheels...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been collecting info on suspension parts and am doing the drop soon.
I already have the sport suspension on my 04.
First question I guess is if the springs are claiming, we'll say a 1.5" drop, and the sport suspension is already .80" (20MM) lower than stock, is that 1.5" drop based upon stock suspension or is it 1.5 lower than my sport suspension?

Second is in regards to wheels. Almost definitely doing some type of mesh spoke wheel soon, too. For driving every day in four seasons, are 18's or 19's a safe bet? I know alot of people say if you go with 18's you'll be wanting 19's, but I dont want the hasstle of changing wheels in the summer/winter.
My car isnt THAT nice to care about that

How about spacers? Do people usually space 18's or 19's with a dropped suspension?

    Thanks

Spring measurements are almost ALWAYS measured by how low it drops a STOCK suspension. So your 1.5'' drop will really only be roughly .5"

You'll probably end up doing some sort of winter preparation for your car anyhow, so why not just get 19's and make it look good? I was gonna do 18s for the longest time but decided to get 19s after seeing all the cars at waterfest this weekend. 18's are a little too small and if you keep your 19 on a stiff rubber with enough air pressure you'll be fine!

Then again, I'm using my stock 17s as my winter set..

Thats kinda what I though about the drop.

I know, I'd hate to go 18's and not like the look...but I want it to be driveable as well. Not to say that 19's arent, but my wife shares the car, so where I can deal with some issues of driveability, I dont want her coming home and complaining.

Where you located? I saw Philly Burbs.

Me too. I'm a Phils season ticket holder and Utley (future Hall of Famer) is a stud.
I have much more respect for him now after the comment

I'm in the Lansdale area, Hatfield actually!

lol, your wife is gonna complain anyway when you get the new springs/struts on it. The only set I know of that is even remotely close to stock is the Eibach/Koni FSD setup.

I just bought an H&R/Bilstein kit at WF last weekend for 700 so I'm pumped about getting that put on. I'll have to wait a bit though since I need new tires and inspection is up at the end of Aug, lol.

Ahh. Cool. I work in Lansdale. Who's doing your work for you? I took my car to Ground Level Customs a few times on 7th & N. Cannon Ave.

Re: Final ??? on lowering and wheels...

I was gonna get it done through AWE, but they charge 115/hr, so I need to shop around. A friend of mine mentioned there's a place up in Coopersburg that works on VW/Audi and is fairly cheap. If I can get the name of it, I'll let you know. How's GLC's work?

They're ok. They did headers for me a couple years ago on my Z28 for 700 bucks installation and I was happy. I supplied the parts and it was a pretty big undertaking, so I knew ahead of time the labor would be high.

If it were something very VW/Audi specific, I'd use either AWE or a specialty shop. For springs/shocks I think a place like GLC works out good, though. They do alot of ricer cars it seems, but I've seen Audi's in their shop, too.

EDIT- GLC gave me a price of like 500-550 for the install, so they're out. They're claiming the front alone is like 3.5 hours.

The prices you guys are getting quoted aren't unreasonable... if you want cheap throw something up in the Regionals... I'm sure there is someone who has experieince and can help you out, that is what I did.. the DIY is pretty straight forward with the right tools and a some jack stands.

I had AWE quote me at roughly 475, 4 hrs time. I know its not totally unreasonable, but that doesn't mean I can't save a little green - H20 will be here before you know it and daddy might want some more toys! haha
