Without modifying suspension you are indeed right, the stock RS4 is a boat!
Time to jump on the StasisMS boat, you'll love em.

It was either the RS4, S5, Cayman S, or wait for the e92 M3.. since we already have a lotus exige s, M5, in the family.. i wanted to try something new. Ive never had an Audi before. but ive always loved the B5 S4's.

I don't think anyone is hating. The car is hot, Tiatnium Pkg & all, but you said it, it felt like a boat. We can all agree that for close to $70K out the door that you would expect the car to be a MUCH firmer ride. I felt the same way with my S4. Having driven many comparative cars, the Audi is much sloppier than others, it is it's biggest criticism other than the 15% that they are overpriced. Over priced or not, I still own two.

OK then, it's a 70k high performance boat?? Now we're nitpickign with technicalities.

I guess I'm not sure why everybody is so butt hurt, the OP said the car was a boat, I simply stated, for 70k I'd buy something else. I'm not hating. I love the RS4 myself. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

Absolutely - you in the Pasadena area?

Did you see the pics from our Avant GTG? There were two B5's sedans that went on the run with us, and the RS4 would have made it complete!

I haven't met a car to this day that of the box that does not need significant suspension work to handle really well...the RS4 is no different.
Besides, the real gem of the purchase is the RS4 engine, body etc...NOT the suspension.

Define what YOU mean by the car 'feeling like a boat' ... the track you were on is tight and twisty ... depending on your inputs, you could have been exaggerating feedback (i.e., oversteering, missing braking markers, etc.) ... did your rig feel like a boat when we screamed up Mulholland West months ago? I left everyone on that drive in the dust and, with NO suspension work, my RS4 did not feel like a boat at all.

That said, when I choose to part with $4k, I agree with the Canadian dude about going StasisMS which I am still considering for the future.

My point and problem with folks (not necessarily you Jerry) bemoning a car's / motorcycle's handling is to point the finger at the rig and not comment about behind the wheel skills. I cannot comment about you other that the one canyon run and even then I only saw what I saw in a rearview mirror for a curve or two.

Keeping it real, we don't know what was going on that day, tire pressures, tire selection, track temp, etc. ... so much goes into what it feels like. Moreover, I don't disagree with anyone who thinks the RS4 should be a bit a more refined for the $$$ ... in fact, IMO, the OEM shifter and tuning (powerband) sucks for rather unexplanable reasons.

A tweak here and there with a solid shifter and tuning the ECUs and it's quite a bit better.

Anyway, cool pix and it must have been a fun day on the water!

Worth finding out - i don't know much about the V3's, but with the stasis/ohlins motorsports, we're running 600-800 lbs in the front and 1200+ in the rear (my kit is 750/1200). The huge spring rate increases (particularly in the rear) make the car drive as if someone took 500 lbs out of the nose. Truly night & day difference on both the street and track.

If you're serious about tracking the car more, it might be worth the upgrade costs to retrofit w/ stasis MS.

Haha, true words have been spoken. I'll take a stock RS4 to the track anyday and do better than 90% of the people there in the advanced/racers group. I think I'd even do quite well with my A4 and it would be real exciting/handful with its' stock suspension. You can buy a stock Porsche and still easily max out the suspension on the track. For max enjoyment c/o setup is the way to go. But be careful once you make one mod then you will want another and another until you are financially ruined.

I disagree. The RS4 is a premium level sport SEDAN, not a pure sports car. It is designed to be fast, but is also designed for luxury, practicality, and all-weather capability. For what it is, it handles spectacularly. Also, a car that excels on the street is quite different from what it takes to excel on a track. If you want a car that handles like a Porsche Cayman S, buy a Porsche Cayman S. This, of course, refers to stock vehicles. Modded cars are a whole different ball game.
