Sometimes its good to be curious.. (Airbox filter story inside)

So this saturday I got my K & N Filter.
This afternoon when I got home from work I was curious about the stock tubing that supplies the airbox with air. As I am taking it apart looking at it I notice that when I unscrewed the tubing it sounded like a salt shaker so I shook it to clean it up. You guys will not believe how nasty it was. . I knew it would be dusty since where I work in Medley its pure dust and mud. But this was crazy. (pcs of dragonflies, leaf, etc.) After I cleaned the box I started it and the car feels so much smoother.

Guys it takes 15 mins and your car will thank you for it.

If your snorkel looks like that check your intercooler ducts, when I had my bumper off mine were totally filled with leaves.

i've gotten used to pulling the foglight grilles off my bumper (s-line) when i wash the car. every time, there's a little bit of sand, a few smaller pebbles, and a couple dead bugs. and yeah, i've pulled my share of leaves and such off the intercoolers too. no performance increase though - i don't have a sticker for it.

<civic_driver>d00d!!!!11!1one i just cleaned my intercoolers and got this awesome sticker of a brush! +10hp!!!</civic_driver>

    Did mine today

Side note: i think there should be a sticky somewhere about little things you can do like this to help keep you car ship shape. I can only speak for myself but i'm sure theres others that have little knowledge about keeping your car 'healthy'.

Simple. Just take out the 2 screws on the top of your bumper, and slide the whole tihng out. It comes apart at the middle if that's any easier. And you'll see the little filter at the end of it. there you go...

You can see one of the screws in this picture, bottom right...

Every time I look at mine, I have a bunch of leaves/helicopters/crap in there too. But I just use a cone filter now, so my snorkel is clean for the most part since anything that goes in just falls through into the engine bay.
    Ignorance is bliss.

I would like to thank you guys. This is what forums are about putting our info together and troubleshooting our cars better than the dealer techs.

Sorry for the low quality shots but didn't have a camera near and the Iphone is pretty handy.
