Electronic boost controller, Anyone use E-boost 2?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im looking at getting an electronic boost controller and I want something that I can program for RPM dependent and gear dependent. Other features like programing w/m injection would be nice as well.

So far I know of 2.
    Apexi's AVC-R
    E-Boost 2

We have the Apexi model on our 944 turbo and love it.. but I want to see what my options are.
I like how the Eboost is a guage with everything built in however it looks like it could be difficult to fine tune/program. The apexi has better read outs and looks much easier to use.

What else is out there? I cant find anything used, for a decent price.. I'd like to spend sub 400, but the cheaper the better...

    Thanks!

I actually want to replace my boost controller and use the Eboost 2 with a cover plate to hide all of the function buttons... That way it appears more stock.

    Other option is GReddy.

I'm slightly interested in that b/c it'll match my turbo timer. My turbo timer hides in the glove box so nobody sees it but me.

How are you planning on making an A/M gauge look stock?

Placing a cover plate over everything except the digital readout.

The GReddy isnt rpm/gear dependent is it? I havent found one that I liked by GReddy..

What are you building that you'd want gear dependent boost?
Most of the stuff I've seen that would need that are the GT30R-B18 Honda guys and FWD DSM's.

I haven't used their Boost controllers, so I don't know if I like them or not. I've been happy with their turbo timer, but there's stuff I don't need lost in translation for a boost controller.

In general you turn the boost down in the higher gears so its less stress on the engine as you will be at that boost for longer. I want to make an efficient engine that doesnt overload itself.

Another thing is that if I run race gas on my race file, I can swap programs on the apexi controller

Re: Electronic boost controller, Anyone use E-boost 2?

Can't you just turn it down on the others? Or have 2 settings?

Lowering boost in higher gears, or just the highest gear? Would make some sense, but if you're going for power why lower it? I can see a DD/low setting and a race/"weekend" setting. Higher gears is where you need more power to overcome the wind resistance.

I have the Apexi unit, I wold get the black edition it looks more discrete but the thing is huge... I have never used any other EBC but the Apexi unit offers almost everything that one could ever need. Although I would change a few things about it...

-Logging capabilities (better than what is on the unit, something that you can load on a laptop and view)
-detachable unit so you can take it with you...kinda like a stereo head unit

Re: Electronic boost controller, Anyone use E-boost 2?

I am very much familiar with the Apexi unit and I agree it would definitely do the job for me. I've used it for over 4 years now, but Im wondering if there is a better / cheaper unit on the market.

DJ Wimbo, this is my DD and having the ability to switch files with the push of a button is very important. Also being able to change boost per the RPM is important to me as well, a high and low setting will not work for what I want.

Enough said, you obviously have more experience than I do on this subject.

Re: Electronic boost controller, Anyone use E-boost 2?

I've spent days in front of various datalogging systems adjusting and tuning my dads 944 turbo numerous times (he always changes something and then tries to tune it himself, then comes to me telling me he screwed up my file... grr)..
I plan on doing the same thing adjusting the boost for my likeings to how APR adjusted the fuel for the pump gas file, while being conservative (my motors not built yet..).
