hey, i want to put led's in for my brake lights and turn signals front and rear. i heard somewhere that a vagcom could be used to get rid of the "light out" indicator on my gauge cluster. i called the dealership an my buddy there is the service manager and told me that he didnt kno of any vagcom mod that would take away the warning but if i could get some values and send them to him, he would do it for me... anyone have any ideas???

Use a Inline resistor from radio shack, they are really cheap, till u get rid of the warning.

    good luck

There is no way to use VAG-COM to turn off the bulb out warning. A resister in parallel with the LED to increase the current in the circuit, will prevent the warning. The same setup as used for LED city lights is required.

what is the resistance that the ecu looks for in the circuit??? this way i kno how big of a resistor i need to get. anyone do this already and have the "instructions". havent even taken it apart yet to see what color the wires are or which ones to put the resistor on... whether it's ground or power side altho i dont think it would matter... tia

    Re: vag com mods....

so which is it?? 10 ohms or 220??? or is that for different light bulbs... i want to do brake, all turn signals, and high mount stop light.

is it as easy as just getting the meter out and measuring the resistance w/ the bulbs in it then w/ the leds and finding a resistor to make up the difference?? or would that only work if it was in series???

i've heard 220-250 ohm resistors is the norm for city lights... I used 250ohm I believe... hook them up in parrallel and resistors are dual direction, no + or - to them, diodes are what you are thinking about

i kno the dif between diodes and resistors but i've never put resistors in a circuit like that.. didnt kno if it made a difference if they were put before or after light. and it's not city lights. i dont have them in my car. just reg turn signals. is that something where i just need to get my meter out and check the resistance for the reg bulb and add the proper size resistor... and that means 1 resistor for each bulb too right?

A 220 Ohm, 1 WATT (Power Dissipation Rating) resistor is recommended to prevent the lamp failure warning regardless of the application. The bulb check system uses the same method of checking all of the stock incandescent lamps, so the same resistor value that works for the City Lights, will also be suitable for LED tails, or any other lighting monitored by the bulb check system. The resistor is connected in Parallel with the LED, not in Series, (in-line before OR after the LED,)

wasn't trying to insult your intelligence buddy... lol

but the guy ^ is correct... before or after the light doesn't matter, it is in parallel

    Re: vag com mods....

ok... i read it again and got it... so a 220 ohm resister for every bulb i want to go led with is what you guys are sayin will work... in parallel...not series..

i just checked radioshack.com and i'm only finding 220 ohm 1/2 watt resistors. where can i get the correct ones at?? i just looked at ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/220-OHM-1-WATT-5...3286.m20.l1116 . it's 1 watt ones that i need and 1/2 watt will not work is this right?? that auction has what i think is right but 3 of them for 2.69 shipped.... i figure i need 2 for each tail light (blinker and stop light), and 4 for the front blinkers...so 8 all together... whats the best place to get them..
