Ticket on I5 last week. 99mph. suggestions?

I wasn't driving, my buddy was. The cop was a complete idiot and went off on some lecture about how its much more dangerous driving that speed in higher heat because our tires could explode...oh noes.

Anyways, he said we were not in a city but just a stretch of highway between cities. Is my friends only option trial by decleration, in which case, how exactly does that work, what should we do? any help would be appreciated thanks!

What county was it in? I lost a trial by decleration last Feb. for 85mph ticket. I dont think heat would make those tires greasy like it would an R-compound. However, they will inflate up to 6-8 psi higher which might put you over the manufacturers max specs. depending on what your tire pressure was at when cold.

Ooops, good luck with getting out of that one.

What the cop was referring to was the speed rating on the tires. Unless your buddy went el-cheapo, chances are he has tires that are better than S rating (max 112mph). But there are tires out there with limited speed rating (75mph max). Obviously the cop has not checked your setup with his quote. What heats up are the sidewalls since they cycle up and down as you compress/uncompress them while the tire is turning. Low tire pressure makes this worst. And yet, they can blow up at speed with very devastating results if they do. However, since there are no tires that are available to match the Veyron’s top speed, the top gear team took chances (and they said that) almost 60mph faster than the tire’s limit.

We were in a black durango. The cop said we were tailgating at 100mph and that the tires are not safe in that heat because if he had to slam on the brakes while tailgating, they could pop.......he's an idiot but....he did write us up for only speeding.

I don't remember where exactly it was but, i'll check the ticket. we'll see what the courtesy note says. they won't do anything like mandatory court appearance right?

With 99 mph in a Durango I wouldn;t be to worried about the tire. More like the whole car.
Posted is 75 you are at 99 = 24 over. I guess 250 USD and an afternoon at traffic school will do it (if you haven't done so the last 18 month).

Don't get me wrong, but it seems like you really where going the speed you where trapped with. So why argue. However if you where tailgaiting, how is it possible for the cop to measure your speed and not the on in front of you???

Wait a minute. Your buddy was speeding in a SUV. The CHP officer nails him for speeding and following too close, and the officer is an idiot?

Your buddy (and you) have to pay to play. Your buddy took the risk to drive faster than the posted limit, and he got busted. How is the CHP officer an idiot again?

Unfortunately, this will likely result in a mandatory court appearance. My nephew got busted the same way about a year ago on hiway 5. The result was a 1 month suspension of his driver's license (he had to surrender it to the judge at the appearance and it was mailed back to him after the suspension was over) and a monetary fine.

    Good luck to your buddy.

Re: Ticket on I5 last week. 99mph. suggestions?

okay why is all the hate focused on me right now...I wasn't the driver....The cop is an idiot for giving us a lecture about tires and brakes...A simple, slow down and a ticket would have been sufficient. I didn't want to go into detail about why he's an idiot but, just take my word on that one, he is. Anyways.. posted limit was 70 and the durango was fine at 100mph...i have a feeling if it was a q7 or x5 you wouldn't be giving me so much shit.....

Andre5, how old was your nephew?

genius of the year. you should write a book......I just asked for any help with the ticket. When I am capable of controlling wether I get caught and at what speed, I'll start making mental notes okay?

ya, i had been drinking so definately had no idea where the cop came from. my friend said he must have been on an overpass or something. the ticket came today. 380 dollars and has to go to court if he wants to fight for traffic school. sucks considering flying would have been cheaper than gas, yet alone this ticket
