Back from the testing day! 1.04 constant G's 1.08 max!!

Alrighty im back from my autox testing day.. New Gtech is amazing... still working on getting all the info uploaded...

Car pulled a max of 1.08G on the skidpad and a 1.04 constant.

Tires are new Bridgestone RE01-R street tires.

    Koni coil overs
H+R 21 mm rear bar, Sport front bar.

1.4 front camber 1.0 rear camber (tire temps said I needed almost another degree of camber....) for street/autox use.

Amazing turn, infact one of my instructors (multiple national champ) thought I was on R compound tires.

Just thought I'd post my findings!

hmm..makes me wonder what I'm pulling on my set of Kumho V710's. Over the course of *most* of our 40-45sec courses I'm roughly 1.5sec quicker than when I was running Falken RT-615's...

Re: Back from the testing day! 1.04 constant G's 1.08 max!!

Suposedly the bridgestones are faster than the falkens..

Also my tires were very much warmed up and even got a little gummy (there was a LOT of driving going on...) In the morning (after a 150 mile drive) the tires were cold and the car felt very much like it was skating on ice.

My dad was running take off 710's and take off hoosiers on the front (older tires we've had for a couple years) and he managed 1.1 max and 1.07 sustained. (This was in a track prepaired 944 turbo) Im sure with new tires there would be much higher grip levels.

On a side note... My dads 944 turbo is very fun to drift! We swapped cars for 2 runs and being used to the A4 I got on the power a little earlier than I should have and started drifting and said "what the hell" and just went and drifted the course... Oh ya 400hp RWD with sticky tires is fun! Dont have any pics of that though... Wish I did, I was very happy with myself....

Well I am going to guess the clutch/flywheel worked great.

    Mike,

Everything went together fine, there is a little bit of flywheel/clutch chatter that I was definitely not expecting, but Im hoping it goes away with more miles.
It seems to hold really well, it just feels a whole lot different than what I had been hearing "Similar feeling to the stock clutch" ect..

I appreciate all your help over the past week!

Is it a chatter while sitting still out of gear with the clutch pedal pushed in or while pulling away in gear?

The HD pressure plate will be close to stock and the SS pressure plate is slightly stiffer. Also since it grabs much lower it will make the clutch feel stiffer.

Re: Back from the testing day! 1.04 constant G's 1.08 max!!

When I say stiffer, I mean, getting out of my car, and going into my dads 944 turbo race car with a stage 3 clutch feels like there is NO resistance on the clutch, get back in my car after a few miles and its feels like im at the gym doing leg presses...

There is a little chatter sitting out of gear, but mostly its clutch chatter while pulling away in gear.. I had the same thing for about 20 miles in my 914 v8 and it went away, this car seems to be going away much slower.. Keep in mind i've driven this car 400 miles in the past 4 days. My friend with a stage 5 clutch on his civic w/ a 9 lb flywheel said my clutch was stiffer than his (I stalled his car 11 times getting to the autox start line, it was comical.. that sucker releases RIGHT off the floor instantaneously)

That chatter should go away over time, I never noticed it on any of the A4's with a SB cluch that I have driven.

What is done to your old man's 944 that you are claiming 400 hp? I have only ever driven one 944 that excited me, it was gutted with a full cage and had a motor/turbo setup from RUF, I doubt it was make 400whp. What GTECH meter are you using?

Sorry did I say WHP? My bad, CHP....

T3/T04 turbo with water/meth and a custom piggyback system with a built engine, custom piping, 20psi.

Coil overs front/rear, large sway bars, Qa1 shocks, roll bar, fiberglass bits, upgraded brakes, bla bla bla...

Sounds like it could be fun. What GTECH meter are you using? Also check the link in my sig if you and your old man are P-car guys, you should find some things to your liking.

Cool, how do you like it? I'm contemplating purchasing one from a guy that I goto the track with, he says he's lost interest in it.

Re: Back from the testing day! 1.04 constant G's 1.08 max!!

Its really nice! If you have a video camera you can overlay your day onto the video and watch where your at the limit, where you go over, bla bla bla.. it does a good job at 0-60, 1/4 mile, all the inputs in between... HP and tq are nicely displayed (however it seems to read lower than my old model Gtech..)

I picked mine up new for 275 shipped on ebay or something like that.

I must say it was really cool watching the autox runs, and seeing my G's get higher and higher when my tires warmed up. T

Awesome, I didn't know about being able to do a composite with video. The guy wants to let it go for cheap like $150, he is loaded, I track with PCA, I'm jealous of most of my track elders, most are living a dream

Re: Back from the testing day! 1.04 constant G's 1.08 max!!

    Pick it up definately...

Im not 100% it can do a composite, but you can watch both at the same time :), I just got it so Im not 100% sure of all the abilities of it but it looks like it has some very powerful tools.

I track with PCA as well, in fact i do many autox events with them. (I have a 914 w/ a v8.. also track prepaired w/ true slicks and wide fenders.. so I am a "Porsche" owner and therefore have a PCA card, I just dont drive my 914..)

Re: Back from the testing day! 1.04 constant G's 1.08 max!!

I got ya. That is awesome, my first track car was a 914 as well that I later transformed into a 914-6 with a 3.0l twin plug RSR motor, full cage, Koni coilovers, 964 Turbo brakes, fuel cell, fiberglass bumpers. That car really taught me how to drive, no abs, no traction control, 300hp, 1800lbs. Only thing I didn't do was the wide fenders, and that was the biggest obstacle left on the car before I got rid of it. What kind of V8 do you have in yours, a member of our PCA region has an LS1 in his.

Re: Back from the testing day! 1.04 constant G's 1.08 max!!

Is his car white with a custom body kit? Very nicely done? If so I know him.

Mine is a chevy 350 w/ holley fuel injection. Its currently running the stock smog heads (to keep the TQ down so my trani would hold) however it was dyno'ed running carbs at 240rwhp 275rwtq. When I put the fuel injection the car woke up like crazy... Honestly another 50lbs of tq across the band. Its got a race cam and some other goodies in it though.
I have a 915 LSD trani and double humper heads ready to go in... but I've had that stuff for 2 years...
Its got koni coil overs, larger torsion bars up front w/ a custom nascar sway bar, 275lb springs in the back, 951 brakes ready to go on (911 earlys on there now), needle bearings replacing the bushings, longitudnal stiffening kit, and a bunch of other crap, oh and 9.5 and 10.5 goodyear slicks... I'll get a proper cage reinforcing the suspension points one day.. its about 2200lbs..

It was going to be my autox monster, because people said 914's with v8's couldnt handle very well... ha!

However im now building my A4 to be a street tire autox monster... A little more camber and I should be well into the 1.1 constant G's..

Sounds like an awesome setup, post some pics up sometime I would like to see it. Yeah the guy that is local his is white with 5 spoke wheels with lots of lip, wide fenders, not really sure about much more than that though.
