What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just been looking around at different cars lately and 05-06 G35 coupes can be had for great (IMO) prices right now. I've seen many with 20k-30k miles for sale for low 20s loaded.

Anyone ever driven/owned one? Any thoughts on the way they drive? Any opinions really. I've always liked the look of the G coupe. I've been itching to get back into a coupe and the a5/s5 are more than I want to spend right now. I'll probably keep my car but still curious about what people have to say about them.

Here's a few nice modded gs I've seen in the last few days on the G forum.

Lots of standard equipment, plenty of go-fast parts to be had, if you like it, why not? I happen to really like the G37 coupe, and i hear a G37x is on the horizon.

Driven a twin turbo g35...on a conservative tune it was pretty wicked fast. Seem to be pretty well built cars too.

I honestly didn't even know they were putting TTs on those cars until I started looking at some G sites.

I like the g37 alot too. 330 hp iirc. Heard many good things but for 30k plus , I'd just go ahead and get an 02-03 996 There are a hell of a lot of aftermarket goods for the G, man. Those JDM guys have it good when it comes to that.

ey man I had one for almost 2 years. Honestly can say I loved the car. I had every bolt on possible on the car. Basically ready for a s/c or TT and it was plenty quick. I loved the car so much fun and it handled well too.

I had the Tein Coilovers, Rial Wheels, Greddy Exhaust, Ichiban headers, test pipes, plenum spacers. Car was plenty loud n fun. I would recommend it no joke. I truly miss it. the 6speed was short and quick.
I got rid of it only b/c it was a lemon - the tranny kept going out - had it replaced 3 times in 18 months. It was common in the 03's and some 04's but fixed after that if i remember correctly.

    good luck

great car. i had an '06 with no problems at all. then got into a head on collision and the car crumpled like soda can. terrible accident. terrible injuries. switched to a more solid car.

I've always loved them, I've driven a few of them a good distance and I thought they handled pretty well. I'm not sure how are they long term, but from what I've experienced and the after market available to them, I think they're a good pick.

they're pretty predictable RWD cars...nothing tooo crazy but w/ suspension work they are pretty good, no EVO or anything though. My brembo's standard made me feel safer so I always pushed it a bit more.

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

I'm sitting in an Infiniti dealership as I type this, and I can assure that the G37's are damn nice. I like the lines a little better than the 35's, and I've always wanted one. More exclusive than it's cousin the 350Z, nicer sounding exhaust and better handling, as well has higher fit and finish. Get at least an 05 or above and you'll be golden.

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

My boy has the G-35. It's got a nicer interior then my 01 Audi. Handles better, much faster, 6spd gear box has good ratios yet not at 3600RPm at 80 like my freakin buzz box 5spd, the engine is a very torquey engine with more mid-range grunt then any car in its class, near idiot proof handling. Only thing I got him beat on is when it snows he can't leave the block. lolz If I could afford one cash and didn't need AWD for getting to work in the snow it would be a toss up between the Evo and G35.

Sweet G, man. Looks like most here like them. Honestly, I'm pretty surprised. I thought I would get a bunch of "rice" comments lol.

no man people have respect for the car...just some of the drivers are complete douches. i liked the clean and OEM look. black grill and the oem sport lip w/ rims and coils. the headers and stuff made it ridiculously loud. no joke. ive had people hear me BLOCKS down the street. imagine a 3 inch straight pipe from the V6...it'll catch some attention. I actually miss that car so much, my car now is the exact opposite.

I assume you have an a3 now?

Yeah, I've been on g35driver the last few weeks and most of the guys there seem to be pretty young, like late teens and college aged. It's a different type of message board than here and AW( though the b6 forum here is starting to get a bit younger as well). Most of the people there seem pretty helpful but there are some jackasses. Just like anywhere else I suppose. A lot of those guys are making some serious power though.

Statistically nice cars. Sound very nice, look reasonably classy, if not a bit bland. The ones the TS posted are fugly, though. Can you say Uncle Ben?

A friend of mine sat in my car after sitting in his friends 03 G35 sedan. Said my interior was a lot nicer. I agree, as I hate that pretentious analog clock.

you would assume so with my username and all...but I sold the A3 as well. I finished that project in 6 months and I just couldn't stop spending.
The forums are immature for sure, but the TT's and S/C's are doing very well. Esp once the 37 motors are worked out they will be putting crazy numbers down

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

The G35 coupe is a nice car. Stay 05+ as the interior was updated...the center stack and controls are nicer. Handles well, sounds good, brakes solid, and has decent power. It's not a sports car, but its a nice touring coupe. I will add that most modded ones are rice. It's just not the car to throw body kits and loud exhausts on. I compare Infiniti to Acura and Lexus, and they should be kept real classy otherwise they look trashy.

No no, I like that one. It's the exception.

I was refering more to the one with the double-decker hood bulge and side vents to nowhere.

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

it really depends on what you'll be using it for. If you're gonna keep the a4, i would recommend getting into a smaller car with RWD that's a lot less expensive. As much as i would like to have a G35 or M3 sitting next to my A4 in the garage, i know it's not really logical.

How about an S2K? and '04 can be had around 14-15k and they're fun little cars. Plus you can actually take advantage of the convertible top being that it rarely rains here (even though the last couple weeks have been weird) and it's fairly quick. Besides, it's a Honda, so you know it'll last a while with decent gas mileage. I've been thinking about picking one up for a while, but need to save/pay for a wedding/house/grad school so my funds get depleted too quick for another car right now.

As for the G35, they're awesome cars in terms of style and luxury. However, when i test drove one a couple years ago i was not impressed. The car felt it had no torque (at least compared to my Revo 1+ of the time) but was very smooth. The 6 speed was cool, but i couldn't get involved in the driving experience...a turbo could change all that though.

Take a spin in the car and see if you like it, because that's what it's really going to come down to.

No torque? Maybe not at 1500 RPm like our cars, but they have a stompin lower mid-range that carries onto the upper revs.

that's just how it felt. But then again, it could have been just the way i drove it, as i probably drove it like i drove the a4. Driving styles change with each car, so i'm sure if i had one for a weekend i might feel differently, but as of now, i didn't get the sensation of torque. I could definetly see i went fast, but didn't feel it...which is ubiquitous with higher hp, NA cars

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

yoogene38 is right about the 'sensation of torque'.

I have driven every variant of the 350Z, G35 coupe, and new 07+ G35 sedan. This covers the 280, 287, 298, and 306hp versions of the VQ35 motor. My parents bought an 08 G35 sedan on my recommendation. So I have high regards for infiniti and plenty of seat time with the VQ35.

They do not provide that 'rush' or 'torque sensation' that a 1+ or K04 1.8T does. You put your foot down and it moves along pretty uneventfully, you look down and you're picking up speed pretty quickly, so it does move...but it never gives you that kick-in-the-pants rush.

It would be my only car because I am a broke f--ker. And a G would be in the low twenties for a nice 05-06. For that price, the best you could do would probably be an 01 m3 with high mileage.

My roommate has an s2k and honestly, I can't stand driving that thing for more than 15 minutes at a time.

It's tiny inside, it's loud as shit, you don't get any power out of it unless you rev that bitch to 7k, it's a bitch to get into and out of, I couldn't care less about having a conv. I'd actually prefer not to have one as I'm not really a "look at me' person like almost everyone else in Vegas lol. The damn tail will slide out if you look at it wrong, did I mention it was tiny inside?

I know I'm the minority on those cars but I would only own one as a track car. Just not my thing. At all.

The 6 speed was cool, but i couldn't get involved in the driving experience...a turbo could change all that though.

Take a spin in the car and see if you like it, because that's what it's really going to come down to.
Yah, I'm going to do that eventually. I just wanted to know what people thought. For some reason , I'm really on a coupe kick right now. I still love my car, and no payments so it would take something I REALLY love to get me to sell my a4. Like a 996 That's what I really want.

They do not provide that 'rush' or 'torque sensation' that a 1+ or K04 1.8T does. You put your foot down and it moves along pretty uneventfully, you look down and you're picking up speed pretty quickly, so it does move...but it never gives you that kick-in-the-pants rush.
But isn't that just a turbo v. NA thing? I turbo will feel a lot quicker at boost than a non-turbo will, right?

My roommate has an s2k and honestly, I can't stand driving that thing for more than 15 minutes at a time.

It's tiny inside, it's loud as shit, you don't get any power out of it unless you rev that bitch to 7k, it's a bitch to get into and out of, I couldn't care less about having a conv. I'd actually prefer not to have one as I'm not really a "look at me' person like almost everyone else in Vegas lol. The damn tail will slide out if you look at it wrong, did I mention it was tiny inside?

you live in vegas and you DON'T want people looking at you? what are you doing here man?!?! hahah jk

Dude, just keep the a4. no car payments is the shit...unless you pretended to still have payments and put that would-be car payment into a savings account for your next car, then i could see it being possible. Otherwise, it's a poor investment if your car still runs well.

as for the s2k, i was considering that to be your second, "fun" car as you mentioned in your first post. I forgot that you were a bigger guy so i can see it being a pita to get in and out of the thing, but shit, i just think they look awesome and would be a sick track/fun car.

if you're gonna go used, get something practical like a 95 supra or a 94 corrado g60. hahaha

I was looking at Corrados online the other day. Looking for vr6s. Is that the same as the g60?

I'm not looking for an investment, just something different. I lose money on cars. If I had quattro, I would 100 percent keep my car and just go BT but I have FWD.

Eh, I'll probably wind up keeping it . I'm emotionally attached to my car anyway

go old school, it's a lot cheaper, easier to work on and can still be fun to drive.

If i were to go oldie, i'd pick up a '96 325iS and clean it up real nice with some decent wheels and good suspension and have myself a fun track car that can still be a decent daily....all for <$8k

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

I like the G35 aesthetically better than the G37. That said, the G35 is great on the outside and shit on the inside. I honestly don't understand the poster who said that the interior is nicer than his '01 Audi. I'm sorry, but plastic B.S. doesn't = luxury interior. The G37 has MASSIVE improvement in that dept., though. I would buy a G35, but I don't want to be in a car I see literally every 5 seconds on the road. Frankly, I'm sick of of seeing them. Everyone and their dog has one and thinks they're big shit cause they do. Therefore, my conclusion is that it's a complete tool\douchebag car.

LOL, I can see your point. I feel the same way about the e46 m3. While I absolutely love that car, they are all over the place here in Vegas and they tend to have d-baqgs behind the wheel. Especially now since they are becoming more affordable, I am starting to see, sideways hat, popped collar,Ed Hardy-wearing, teen/early twenties dickheads, flying around, cutting people off, bogarting at stop signs, tailgating, and generally acting like the little punk a-holes they are. It's a shame when a cool car gets a bad rep because of their dickhead drivers.

Also. a good friend of mine is a Police sergeant here in Vegas and he told me that the guys on his squad absolutely look out for the type of car people are driving when deciding to pull people over. They are more apt to light up a guy in an m3 or a 911 or a Vette than someone in a 4 door heavy sedan like an a4

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

IMO the G Coupes are some of the sweetest affordable coupes out right now. In response to a lot of owners being douches, I have to disagree(at least in my area).
Most modded G owners around here are dedicated to Nissan and Infiniti like a beggar to money. They started with underpowered 240sx's and 300zx's, then moved up to something bigger, newer, and possibly better. I've probably sample more nissans than other 17 year olds have, and I can tell you that it's in no way a waste of money.
The ride is nice, its fast stock, and parts are being shat out all over.

Re: What do you guys think of the g35 coupes?

my mom's got a '03 g35 sedan and i can say in confidence that i despise that car.

compared to the audi, it handles like shit and just the feel of it is just not comfortable to me.

the coupes i like tho. that white one you showed there is very nice, yet i would still go with something else. defiantly a 350Z

but if i were to buy another car right now
it would without hesitation be an evo 9.

that car is perfect in every way
