    hardwiring V1.....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
ok... well either i am stupid or something....

umm.. so i am trying to hardwire my V1, and ran all the wires and everything, as well as grounded it... now i cant figure out which fuse wire to hardwire it into..

i have tried like 3 different wires going to different fuses.. that come to fuses that come on when the key is turned on..

    hasn't worked.

    Please let me know.

hard wire it to ignition power at the sun roof motor connector....
use the blue with a red stripe wire and the brown at the blue connector at the sunroof motor......this will be the best option for key power.......

not sure about the "brown at the blue connector at the sunroof motor" but I know the blue with a red strip wire is a good one to tap into since it's only hot when the car is on.

    check this how to:

I believe it's on a B6 but I would assume the moonroof wiring would be the same.
    Hope that helps.

piss, the cable was supposed to be here today but my spoiler came instead so I installed that. I will try to take the sunroof box apart tomorrow or sunday and find a good lead and ground and get some pics.

    Re: hardwiring V1.....

k, took apart the sunroof box and didn't really find anything good to use. took the little moulding piece off the mirror thats on the windshield and found that the white wire (mirror side of the plug) is hot only when the key is on so that should work for a lead, the ground will hopefully be on of the other 5wires but I didn't have time to check since I'm just off work and going to dinner. I hope this helps. Do you have a test light you can check for a ground with and you'll be set.

I like it.. has saved me a few times.. lol

Umm.. as far as wiring.. I see the white wire.. so i think i am going to follow that wire past the switch into the headliner... so it will be another color, ad then hardwire the v1 in the headliner.

sweet. Glad it worked. I am going to be doing this as soon as I get my direct hard wire cable. Would like to see the pics of your grounding spot.

I feel it's about the best around - have one in every vehicle I own.

I recently tried one of the Passport SRX units (in a Cayenne Turbo - yuck!) and found it to be good for one thing - the laser shifting. It's quite funny to see the cop look down at his gun with this puzzled look. (twice!)

I feel that the V1 outperformed the SRX in every aspect of radar detection didn't false out at spots that I know will set them off near as much either. The SRX was probably 3:1 for falses in known hit areas.

I also didn't like the SRX not being able to point to the source. Once you get used to that aspect of the V1, it's hard to not have. Once again, more points for the V1 over the SRX.

I don't have any experience w/anything other than these two units, but from everything I've read, they're pretty much top dogs of the radar detection world, so I feel I'm comparing apples to apples.

For those that may be trying to install a V1 (or any unit, for that matter) into your Audi, pull the fuse cover panel, pull out a test light and check all the empty fuse sockets. One side will never supply power - that's the side that goes on down the line. The other side of the socket will (generally) either supply power all the time (unswitched) or when you turn the key. It allows you to insert a spade plug and not have to splice into any wires or try to stick wires under a fuse blade.

I can snap a few pix of both the RS 6 and R8 installs if anyone wants.
I had something to put here, but unfortunately misplaced it...
