    Re: FWD or quattro?

Our cars for the most part are so heavy and under powered stock the FWD will win with a good launch in the 1/4. The Quattro just idiot proofs the launch. However the Quattro will make up for it after the first snowfall of the year.

Yea for speed and dry weather handling FWD wins. Just wait till the first time u get snow in FLorida, you'll be sorry.

On another note, why not get a V dub and save a few bucks?

    Re: FWD or quattro?

The quattro will lose on a straight line. If it gets curvy, snowy or rainy the quattro pays off. Myself I enjoy the quattro, sport package and manual in some dry windy canyons here in the bay area from time to time. Leaving in FL you might just get a kick out of it when lunching your car around a corner. Leaving this FWD, RWD cars behind.

Quattro, gives you that extra security and control for both snow and rain and other traction robbing issues. Not to mention, the insurance for my car is much lower than my minivan's...agent says that traction control, airbags and the awd or Quattro was the reason.

A quattro launch is amazing! especially if u want to go Big Turbo! Quattro may be slower stock, but u'll love the cornering and being able to take a curve rather than understeering and sucking a curb!

quattro is great here in the rainy summer (Orlando). My Jetta would spin at the slightest bit of throttle from a red light. The quattro acts like it doesn't know what a wet street is. It's pretty awesome.

exactly... this is one of the main reason to buy an audi! Luxury, sport, and QUATTRO! please do not buy a FWD audi

btw, who ever said launching a quattro car is easier than FWD, you have never launched one then.... launching an awd turbo car with not much power is a nightmare.

I thought insurance is higher if you have Quattro because the insurance companies think that since you have AWD, you will be more inclined to have reckless behavior.

No, companies only ding you for more if it's RWD as far as i know. I don't think they would charge more for AWD as opposed to FWD.

WTF? AWD is safer in any kind of emergency manuver.. insurance will be cheaper. your average driver doesnt even remotely use quattro to its full potential

and quattro > haledex (haledex is primarily FWD and used on TTs and such)

What? I don't think insurance companies usually think that way. I mean for young kids maybe an insurance company MIGHT indicate that as a risk factor (still hard to believe though) but that will normally reduce your over all risk to the insurance company as you could possibly avoid accidents more easily... I.E. in Florida on a wet/oil slick street just after it rains... A few examples of what the insurance policies might change on would be size of the engine and possibly the difference between N/A and turbo, etc cars...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. Quattro doesn't make it a balls to the wall race car...

    Re: FWD or quattro?

My audi tech says that the FWD's aren't "real" Audi's....Quattro all the way!!! Adds more value to your car and the FWD's have lots of problems. Ask a certified audi master tech and they will tell you. In fact, the fwd's have the ESP constantly on, so you know there will be maintenance problems.

    Re: FWD or quattro?

word of advice - get quattro.

a 1.8T fwd is still slow, just not quite as slow as a 1.8T quattro. however the added handling, traction, and overall feel of quattro by far make up for any minor strait line performance differences. plus, if you ever plan to up the power you'll be happier with quattro as you'll have traction.

You may live in Florida now, but if you ever move up north, good luck EVER selling a FWD Audi. I know if you tried to sell it in Colorado you'd probably have to dump it for 2K less than the quattro.

    Re: FWD or quattro?

Unless you are planning on racing or something frontrak will be fine for you. I have one and I love it and have never had any traction issues. Also has a bigger fuel tank, better economy. We have Quattro Audi's too and they are great, but for a daily car if you find one you like and it has a good service history buy it, don't go out of your way to find either.

    Re: FWD or quattro?

quattro ftw. Even if you live in florida and it's hot and dry, the quattro is a blast to drive through corners. I took a corner in my fwd vr6 (it's a really sharp freeway on ramp) that if you were to look at it from an aerial view looks like a sideways U. And it's definitely not an exaggerated U either. It's probably the sharpest corner in my area and usually pushing about 40 around this corner in fwd i can start to get my vr6 getting sideways. In the quattro... i take that corner at like 50 with no grip issues at all. In fact it's quite comfortable I have yet to see what it takes to make the quattro go sideways. And in the snow it's like no other i've ever driven. I've taken my parents '04 tahoe lt with stabilitrac awd to the mountains several times and it doesn't even compare.
