I found this O ring laying on top of the block where the intake mani goes, the piece was laying right by the front passenger corner of the motor right before the power steering pump... I cant find a spot for it anywhere.. Now i have the motor back together and still couldn't fine a spot for it while building the motor. Heres where i found it, and it doesnt go where the water tube goes, that had a smaller oring on the tube it self when i installed it...

this reminds me of working at a Kawasaki/Suzuki shop back in the late 80s. Anytime anyone in the shop built a motor someone threw a piston circlip on the bench after they were done.
Not to be a dick but between this and the oil pump tensioner questions you might be ready for some reference material for the 2.7.

I figured the oil pump tensioner out, i just wanted to be 100% instead of 99%... I never seen the install of the tensioner as the machine shop took the section apart before i got to glance at it.... The motors completely back together now, but before i still couldnt place this oring anywhere

its a rubber o ring, correct? that go's between the accordian hose and stock airbox....

Looks like it could be a coolant seal. Have you checked the coolant temp sensor and after-run temp sensor?

the 2 green coolant temp sensors have rings on them, wheres the after run sensor? I never took any of them sensor off though...

are u talking about the black coolant pipes if so they all have o rings on them... im thinking this was dropped at a shop or has been there since the factory.. I cant find anything remotely close to where it may go...

I help my buddy pull and brake down his motor the other day on his 2.7t a6 and that defiantly looks like the o-ring where the exhaust manifold connects to turbo. That was my first thought when I saw the pic. And the other metal thing on the table besides the quarter looks like a wire clip for the electronics in the lock carrier (or helps hold the hood cable to the lock carrier).

I can't tell you what it is, but it does NOT look like anything internal. Check any sensors that will plug into the block, it looks identical to one of those seals.
