if I hardwire my fog lights to a seperate on/off switch, will I get a DIS failure?

the goal is to keep my fog lights on when nothing else is on.

my car will be out of the shop mid week with a new oetty front and my S6 leds. i want to hardwire them to a switch, but also retain the factory switch. am I going to be causing myself problems?

if so, can I bypass the factory fog wiring by unplugging them? or will that get me a DIS as well?

Might want to check this out and see if the switch mod works for you.

I don't think that will work for me since I want the fogs to turn on when there is switched power. I'd still have to turn the switch to turn the fogs on with Eddie's mod.

I think I might just have to wire the lights to a separate switch, independent of the OEM fog button.

enigma's LED turns on with his ignition and has a rocker switch to turn it on and off when desired...is that what you're looking for? although he has a b7

but simply unplugging them will give you error(least on the b7s) i've been driving on another bumper while my original is being worked on..and I have the DIS error
    Cheers!

i believe he has it wired straight to a switch, bypassing any stock wiring (correct me if i'm wrong). that's not a problem for me, I was just trying to figure out if there were any possible ways to make it more "integrated".

here's a preview of the bumper too :)

quoting a pm response by him

"I can't give you the exact specifics on the wiring, but I'll tell you basically what I discussed with my installer. I wanted the lights to be ignition controlled, so I wouldn't have to worry about turning them on and off every time I started and stopped the car.

The LEDs are controlled by 3 wires, the 12V and ground that the LEDs get their power from were basically spliced from the stock fog light power connector (and the stock fogs were removed). The third 12V control wire was fed from a switch in my glove compartment that was hooked up to an ignition controlled wire (not sure which one, sorry). This allowed the lights to only be on when the car is on, but also allowed me to turn the lights off by using the switch in the glove compartment. I used a simple rocker switch for this as seen here:"

not sure if it will help, but maybe....
    Cheers!

sounds like he just wired to LEDs to a switch :)

I might take apart my stock foglight button and use that as the switch to control the fogs.

    bah!
