Hey guys, for quite some time I have had a rolling noise that gets very noticeable from ~30mph and up. It gets louder with speed, but completely goes away when I make right hand turns. my first thought was wheel bearing, but with the right turn thing im not sure anymore. Any input?

    Re: Rolling noise

Yeah, it's definitely a humming noise, and it's getting progressively worse. What's the best way to check which one is the culprit?

jack the car up.. put ur hands on the top and bottom fo the wheel and shake.. see if the wheel has play in it.. and then do it from side to side.

    Re: Rolling noise

Update: I put the car on stands and checked for play but didn't find any other than on the drivers front wheel. The play, however, is caused by a bad upper control arm. Would a bad control arm give similar symptoms to those i listed above?

    Re: Rolling noise

I still vote wheel bearing. All your symptoms line up perfectly.

Based on it getting quiet on a right turn, you know the weight of the car shifts left and eases the weight off of the problematic bearing - which will be on your passenger side...one of the two (possibly both, unlikely).

I doubt the bad bearing will give you wheel play, the control arm is likely a seperate issue.

    Good luck!

    Re: Rolling noise

It's a bearing. Go find a clear road, get it up to 30-40, and do some weaving. You should be able to isolate it between front or rear.

The bearings are only 60 bucks ea shipped if you order online. Fix it as soon as you can - left unchecked it can damage the ABS sensor adding $250 to the bill.

I just replaced my rear driver's side bearing today. Thing was seized up into the hub - took the shop 2 hours to air hammer the sucker off. Rides like a Rolls now.

    Re: Rolling noise

I just cracked 62,000 miles. It was the passenger rear. I just had one of my buddies get in the back seat to confirm it, but it was pretty obvious which one it was one the noise got bad enough.
