DIAGNOSE me- help with my water damaged CLCM.

So for you people that have followed my previous threads I have had a little bit of a water problem.

Anyways we found out that it wasnt anything that had to do with the ECU. What was damaged was the central locking control module. They quoted me at $1050 to get everything done with parts. I said screw that just paid for the parts and I figure I can do this myself. My question to you is the following:
    1) they said the carpet has to be removed along with the seats to dry everything up before installing this. I dont understand that because I really dont know where this module is. so where is it and what is the reasoning behind them telling me they have to do all that extra work besides labor payment????

    2) after the install of the CLCM I have to reprogram my keys. Can I do that with vagcom or do I truly need the gay dealer for this??

    3) estimated time if I have the right tools and help?

    4) thank you for whoever can answer all.

    thanks again in advanced

Re: *********Mechanics help with my water damaged CLCM.

    REASON BEING IS THIS:

the ECU box goes directly into the skuddle plate and right into the foot well and if water goes through everything in that path al the way up to the radio could have been hit by water, not likely but possible, still the price was rediculous!

Re: *********Mechanics help with my water damaged CLCM.

I know how the water got there bro I can see to my footwell from the ecu box. But I just dont see the reason on them NEEDING to dry all of the carpet and removing the seats to do so (as if it hasnt already because it has sit in a garage for a week and 4 days) to install this thing.

thank for the input though.. ANSWERS are nice keep them coming

OK, the Central Comfort/Locking control module is under the carpet, forward of the drivers seat, inside a compartment. The Central locking function will need to have the keys adapted to the new control module. You can do that with VAG-COM. The Immobilizer, is separate from the locks, and in functionally a part of the Instrument Cluster, and Engine ECU. The immo/key adaptation will not be effected. (This is why I questioned the reason for the no start vs. the wet Central Convenience/Locking Control Module,) If the Immo for some reason is blocking the engine running, then the keys need to be re-adapted with the Immobilizer Control unit in the Instrument cluster, and must be done by the dealer. Immobilizer is a separate function from Central Locking Function using different control modules, and separate devices in the key fob. The Central locking transmitter in the key fob, is not involved with the Immo transponder chip also located in the key fob. The two functions have separate hardware parts in the key fob involved with each aspect.

In order to access the Central Comfort/Convenience Control module, the driver's seat must be removed, then the carpet rolled aside to provide access to the plastic box with the Comfort System Module inside. When there is water ingress, the insulation between the carpet and the steel floor pan is soaked with water, that must be completely dried, or mold and other water related damage will result.

OKK after 2 hours of removing carpet and seat (even though I think it could have been done without the removal of the seat) it is all done. My keys however do not work at all. A new unit was put in, the carpet was still somewhat wet so I vacuumed it and compressed the hell out of everything that was wet. I recently purchase a B7 key from someone that had his B7 totaled. I will replace the actual key and the IMMO if need be. Can this be done safely.?? i guess it can since so many people have done it.

The thing I really need to know is if since the contrl unit has been replaced can I program the keys with vagcom? the dealer wants 110 to do it.

if you mean program the remote open close etc, just get in the car and turn the ignitionon, do not start the car, then hold down the unlock button for a few seconds, turn the car off, and then try the remote, should work, as for the immo in the key you will need the vag com cable and access pin for the car to do it.... but it can be done as well.
