ACNA - 24 Aug AZ Audi Drive

Greetings,

I wanted to follow up with all who attended the initial meeting for the estabishiment of the AZ Chapter of the Audi Club North America (ACNA) yesterday evening at Audi North Scottsdale, and express appreciation to Brian for getting the ball rolling and conducting/hosting the gathering. Turn out was strong, approx 25 to 30 "Audifiles" with what looks to be a strong foundation for an active ACNA chapter. The types and styles of Audi represented should provide much enjoyment, as it appears that we have a full range of models and styles to admire. (still looks as though we need some TT representation though) In an effort to keep the club momentum moving forward, I wanted to give as much advance notice for a planned Audi Drive for Sunday 24 August. I received some route proposals from some of the attendees and based on the feedback suggest the following route:

Meet 09:00 am at Happy Valley Shopping Center Parking Lowes parking lot -
Take I-17N to Camp Verde
Proceed East on RT 260 to Beeline RT 87 S
This will take us down off the Mollogon Rim.
Proceed on 87 down to Payson, and return back to PHX via
Mesa or Fountain Hills.

Figured 09:00 am would be a good start time as we will naturally have some stragglers and it will hopefully not be too hot, espically for the forced induction boys Also, this should put us up North around lunch time. Welcome suggestions for known lunch spots in either Camp Verde or Payson. Figure Payson may be a better bet as far as choices? I will continue to research places based on the number of folks looking to participate., and if we want to reserve a time/table for the group to sit down and eat? Welcome input....

As far as a garthering a bit sooner, Brian mentioned the Euro Car GTG at Evolution motorsports that I believe will take place on 7 August down in Tempe at Evolution Motorsports shop near the Tempe Marketplace? I think it would be pretty cool to have a strong representation by the 4 rings amongst the other German chariots! Not sure of the time, think it is in the early evening.

Please don't forget to fill out the ACNA membership forms, as the sooner we get these in the better, esp with regard to establishing a formal chapter and the perks.....track days etc.

I am in for the drive as long as I can bring at least one of my kids. My oldest is 10 and only 6-7 years away from his first set of rings, so it would be cool to share this with him. Now I just need to get busy installing all the mods I have gotten for my 6 and never have had a chance to install, I need to catch up with all of you...

guys i would suggest that on our trip there, we meet at boulder Creek High School in Anthem.

It is super easy to get back onto I-17 from here, and you wont have to deal with the traffic lights and round-abouts at Happy Valley.
We have met here for the VW cruises to Flagstaff and it works fine.

Yeah that is cool that a new A4 will be in the mix for the drive! Sounds good for the meet up spot. Any suggestions for a lunch spot yet?

I'd say somewhere in camp verde would be best for our lunch stop. Anybody know a decent spot? I don't spend much time up there so i don't know what they have to offer.

After considering a couple restaurants in payson, i decided it would be a bad idea to stop there for a few reasons. First, there aren't any restaurants there that would be worth stopping for. They're all pretty mediocre and none of them have parking lots that are big enough. Traffic is going to be a pain in the ass up there on saturday, it would be easiest just to plow straight through. And most importantly, the cops up there would be all over our shit as soon as we parked, and in a very not good sort of way. They are not very nice and would love to harass us for whatever they could get away with. (Ask me how i know)

As long as we are being safe and courteous drivers, I don't know why they would have reason to crack down on a group of such wonderful people.
