    2000 s4 control arm issue

I have a 2000 s4 with aluminum uprights and last six of the vin being below the 80000 mark at 0688xx. I forgot the last two digits. I went to advance, they brought in 4 and they were all wrong. Ordered from someplace and got the wrong ones twice. I am starting to think I did something wrong. I broke the ball joint in half unscrewing it. This is the front lower control arm with the sway bar mount. My original one I pulled out did not have a taper ball joint. It was almost perfectly cylindrical and pretty fat, probably 2 inches wide ish. Everyone I got was tapered and thin. Is there an adapter in the upright that I pulled out with the old control arm. I threw the arm out so cant even check to see if I can pull it out. I would really appreciate if someone else had this problem. If I lost that adapter how screwed am I? Help me out guys..... And if anyone has an extra or extra uprights o sell me this piece from if its exists let me know. I dont have any pictures.

I had the exact same problem.

Luckily I did not throw my old ones away because there is a metal "cone" or adapter that you have to press off of the old arms which slides over the new ball joint.

There is indeed an adaptor on the ball joint. Sometimes it gets stuck to the control arm when you remove it. You have to reuse it.

For the early 2000 model, this is the arm you need.

Unfortunately I threw out the control arm with the sleeve. Anyone have an extra sleeve or uprights they dont need etc. Please let me know.
