im baking my headlights...

so what do i do?

350 in the oven for 5 minutes, pull apart, spray, and put back together?

i have oven and heat gun so im game for either one.

just wanted to get some input, advice, suggestions from folks. thanks!

yea man, i think 350 would be too much. lotta write ups on this. I think 250 for 5 minutes sounds much better.
Be careful when pulling it apart that the sealant doesnt get on the lense. And be sure to get a good seal when putting it back together or condensation is going to be a b!tch later on.

yea guy np. 250 at 5 minutes. beyond that heat gun it and just work it slowly. If it gets too hot the sealant gets all stringy and sh!t and gets all over the lense and looks like crapola.

Some people say that 150-75 is plenty and 250 is still overkill.

well i couldnt fit them in my oven, so i just used my heat gun.

they're apart and readay to paint except for one thing.

is the corner trim piece that goes around the amber section held in by only 1 screw and the rest being clips? cause im scared to pull too hard as it creaks like its about to crack but i could only find the one screw to losen it.

im pulling them to clear and paint. im going to paint like the pics of doc's car above and the gray one in the other thread, though im debating painting the insides of the turn signals too.

its not a clip that holds the chrome piece by the amber in.. the plastic piece itself flares out behind the piece it connects to, so if u break it, the whole piece will need supergluing (can't buy a new replcement part from audi.. its not a separate part from the entire headlight in the parts system)

i broke 1 clip, but got 1 out.

got a couple coats down on the lights, looking good.

problem is though that i dont have a damn torx small enough to get the chrome pieces attached to the lens detached.

gonna have to run up to sears hardware :(

so do i have to wet sand the housing + primer + paint + maybe clearcoat? I am doing this painting stuff for the first time too... also what brand/can did you use? should the paint be heat resistant?

These are your headlights... don't start with an obnoxious amount of heat then slowly go down and change your mind. If I was using an oven, I'd start at like 100 degrees fahrenheit then keep bumping it up if it wasn't hot enough.

P.S. baking is for women, just use the heat gun and be worry free

i couldnt fit it in the oven cause i have a smaller european style oven (miele)

long story short, used a heat gun, took 10 mins, and i then proceeded to paint everything and put it all back together.

it went fine, just time consuming dicking around w/ clips, multiple coats of paint, and those fing screws everywhere.

everything is back together, everything works, and looks amazing.

ill post pics today. its been a while since i have and i got like 8 diff. mods since the last set.

i painted everything black that i could except the housings for the lights where they reflect off of.
