    2.0T MPG is not good.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I read all these comments about how great our cars are on gas. What??? I have been getting 350 miles per tank (I fill when the tank is on fumes). My wife has a B7 3.2 and gets better mileage then my 2.0T. I get about 5 mpg better in her car then my car on the same route to work with the same driver (me). My B6 S4 always got 240 miles per tank on the same trip to work so I am getting and extra 110 miles out of a tank of gas but for a small 4 cyl engine with not much power the mpg really stinks. I have a 6 speed so the only thing I can think of is the manual may have different gearing then the tip? Why do so many of you think our cars are good on gas? Yes my tire pressures are fine and my alignment is also fine. The 3.2 is good on gas but not the 2.0T. Both cars are quattro. Oh, and my trip to work is 75% highway. I do however really like this car (now that is has a chip, exhaust, and suspension).

Something going on. My last trip to LA I got over 500 miles to the tank. From door to door was 470 miles, and my cluster said 70 miles until empty.

trouble believing the above. i drive a 3.2 tip... i get 20.8 mpg over the last 9 months. for a month i had a 2.0T tip as a loaner and though i didn't calculate specifically, at least 28mpg doing very similar driving. granted i have quattro and the loaner was fwd.

How old is this car? When I had a blown PCV, I was getting less than 20 around town. After it was fixed, got back to 23-24 around town and about 29 hwy.

Re: 2.0T MPG is not good.

Firstly, you may want to measure your MPG differently. Running your car to empty every time is not good for your car nor is it an accurate way to measure MPG. I calculate MPG by dividing previous tank miles driven by number of gallons I just put in.

Secondly, you may want to check other variables. If your tire pressures are running low, you can see ~50 miles/tank less than what you should get otherwise. If your tire pressures are fine, you could have PCV failure. I had the same experience when I bought my car. I was getting ~16MPG with city driving. I did some searches, read the link below, took it to the dealer and got the PCV replaced under warranty. I now get between 350 to 400 miles to the tank with mixed driving with mostly city. You should see north of 400 with mostly hwy and can achieve north of 500 with hwy only.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153392

Edit: just read your post above...MPG will improve as you break-in the car and put on more miles.

Re: 2.0T MPG is not good.

APR 93 stage 2+, test pipe/intake. I beat on my car all the time (because it likes it) and average about 23.5mpg driving 90% city. The only thing worse I could do is race it 24/7 and never drive normally.

Driving for extended periods of time on the highway, the best I can average is 34-35mpg.

If you're just driving to work and get 20mpg, there is something wrong with your car.

Also something to note, the Avant has a 16.6 Gallon tank and the Sedan has 18.8, I get around 370-400 miles per tank, so I am inline with everyone else. This may explain some of the discrepancy but overall I get good mpg.

You're stepping on the pedal more after the chip/exhaust, and the car only has 1k on it.

Ease up on the pedal, and with more miles it will get better.

The above statement is so wrong!!! You're ignoring the commute distance and condition. During the months when my wife drives the Audi to work, she could only manage to get 20-21 mpg. However, during the months when I drives the Audi to work, I get 25-26 mpg. Is there anything wrong with my car during those months that my wife was driving? NO!!! It's her commute that kills the mpg. Short commute with lots of traffic lights will result in very low mpg.

Your MPG will go up once your car is fully broken in.

It's not even recommended to take your car above 4,000RPM when its this new, let alone have a performance flash already.

Take it easy, give it time and your MPG will go up.

Still needs to break in. Audi's engines are tight when new. After your first oil change you'll see a diff and more improvement as you put more miles. Remember your S4? I about freaked the first few thousand miles with less than 13mpg.

I was getting 420 a tank on my 2.0T before I got it chipped. After a few days, the chip gives me better gas milage so I can;t wait to see what tank I get now. My guess is you are gunning it from a stop and hitting around 80mph on the highway.

what DIS shows is not always accurate.
it may show 70 miles until empty, but it could be more or less gas left in the gas tank.
to get a more realistic, accurate way to calculate MPG is to use the method Louis shared: by dividing previous tank miles driven by number of gallons I just put in.
this is how I calculate the MPG on my car and, although DIS shows my car was getting 25.5 average MPG, I actually got around 24 MPG.
it's really hard to believe when someone claims they're getting 30+ MPG on average.
please try the aforementioned method and re-post your result.

You can actually figure out what the difference is between the DIS reading and your actual MPG, and then you can change it with a VAG-com so the display is more accurate.

after your second oil change, gas mileage will go up significantly.
I was getting 350-375 range when the car was new, and now am getting 500+ per tank, my car is at 43k miles now.

don't worry, there's probably nothing wrong with your car. It's just the break-in period and the extra thick oil you get from the factory that's killing the gas mileage right now.

with my last two fill-ups, i have driven 510-520 miles since the previous fill up (i always reset a trip computer when filling up) and my fill up is right around 17 gallons. Yes, our car DO get 30 mpg when driven mildly.

there are so many variables involved that its not even funny. 1k miles? come back once youve actually broken your car in and then talk. btw you could have a pcv problem and not even know it if all things really are equal between ur 2.0 and the 3.2

My car is fronttrak 6mt. according to audiusa.com, 6mt and cvt get almost the same gas mileage, 6mt being better for highway mpg and cvt being better at local driving.

Re: 2.0T MPG is not good.

A4 is my commuter - 80-90% city driving - 18 mile round trip from work and back. 2.0 Auto, quattro, no mods. My gas light came on this morning on the way to work, 40 miles to empty. Prev fill up was 15.9 gallons, and have 321 on the trip OD which right now equates to approx 20.19 MPG. If I ran it to empty that would put me in the 21.5 - maybe 22 MPG range, which I'm not overally happy with.

I have not had it on a long stretch of freeway yet since I purchased it used (32k on the OD) in Nov. Have been right at that 22 MPG city, maybe one fill up that pushed 23 or 23.5 mpg. I have a light foot, I've been trying to nurse more MPG out of it and have been stuck in the same low 20 range.

I traded in a 2006 2.0 Passat which averaged 25-26 city and pulled 34.5 mpg on the freeway, front wheel drive helped that mileage out. I can live with the reduced MPG knowing Audi is AWD and not a piece of junk like the Passat turned out to be.

I'd love to toss a chip in the Audi and pull another few MPG's out of it, seems too good to be true!
