2001 A6: Good Buy or Not?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, here is my first thread/post on here. I am looking into a new car for my GF and came across what seems like a good deal. Its a 2001 A6 Avant Quattro with the 2.8L V6. The car has 82K miles on it, and the dealership is selling it for $7945. KBB value is at 13.5K. So is this a "too good to be true" deal or would this be a decent buy for me? My only hesitation is that I don't want a lemon and I don't want a car that is going to cost me a fortune in repairs. We drove the car and didn't notice and issues with it at all. Drove well, no noise, no vibration. Help me out here :)

    Thanks in advance!

    Nick

Take it to an Independent Audi Specialist mechanic for a look over and get the service history on the car. Make sure all routine maintenances were done on time and if there were any problem areas, you'd see it on the serive history. Get the VIN number and call Audi of America to obtain the vehicle history. Also look at the carfax report but keep in mind they are innaccurate quite often.

At 82k (if it hasn't recently been done) it is due for a timing belt/water pump replacement at an average cost around $1000...as skidroad'r said, get the service history and Carfax reports...

take it to your own mech to get it checked out and if he thinks its in good shape jump on that purchase it is a really good price. you do not have many options for mods with it since it is an 01 prefacelift and a 2.8 but i love mine so good luck
