Ported the inside bells and gasket matched the runners which opened the port up to roughly the size of the rs4, also ceramic coated the inside and out then wrinkle coated the outside in black.. Just some cheap mods to show ..

    Re: Stock intake manifold modified

    My coater,

The black is a wrinkle coat which is supposed to be wrinkled ie not smooth like in the pic hence wrinkle coated If thats what your referring to..

The lighter color is the ceramic, if you look closely you can see little glitter/specs in the coating, thats the aluminum in the ceramic coating, this is what it looks like before polished...

    Re: Stock intake manifold modified

Looks good man. Could you get to the back half of the rear stacks? It looks like it would be a bitch to get back there to get a proper radius. Have your heads been ported as well? If not then why did you chose to open the IM ports up so much? I digging the black wrinke coating. Similar types of coatings have proven to actually "wick" heat away from the base material...especially on non-ferrous metals. It also adds a little more surface area for cooling to take place. Each "wrinkle" may only be .3-.5mm in height, but when its all added up your looking at a decent amount(comparatively speaking) of increased surface area. Good job on taking thinks one step further. Most people would port it and leave it at that, but you went the extra mile which could make all the difference.

BTW-I would def use phenolic spacers with that as well. Try to keep the heat as low as possible so that the ceramic coating wont chip off in the ports. Ceramics are rated at insane temps, but the microscopic "adhesion" between the coating and the aluminum can fatigue over time. I dont think youll have any problems...just giving you a heads up. Once again, good job man.

    Re: Stock intake manifold modified

My heads are port matched to the same gasket i also have spacers from vast.. The end stacks are a bitch...

The ceramic coat is so hard I tried sand blasting a coated part a while back and it didn't come off I used a grinder instead...

Finally someone understands some of things I do without a 50 page debate haha....

If ever was to port another mani i would cut it in half port everything and have it welded back together, thats the best way...

Every little thing I do might sound silly or people may not agree/understand, but there always done for a reason...

    Re: Stock intake manifold modified

To be honest I don't really think anyone can give that answer, but I'm positive by keeping the heat off the mani and porting it and gasket matching will definitely be worth something on my gt car or any other setup especially the k03ss because of all the heat they create... All the little things will usually add more then 1 big thing... I like to coat as many parts as possible, my turbos, manis, dps, all piping, valve covers etc.. I can tell you that coating these parts usually increase on fi cars 3-4% in power do to keeping the heat down...

I cant find anything , is there a simple spray I can buy at NAPA or autozone, or am I going to have to take my mani to a shop?

i do know how to do powder coating but not ceramic coating...

as what i know about ceramic coating..... it is spray on coating and you need to put it into the curing oven (around 650F).....

i really like to try it......but i really do not know where is the best place to get it...(i know eastwood has it but it is kind of pricy..)

    Re: Stock intake manifold modified

Boris, You cant just spray it on and be done with it, the stuff you get in a can is nothing like the real stuff... If you look closely you can see the little shiny flakes which is aluminum thats what does most of the job, the stuff in the cans dont have hardly any if any at all and is 10000% softer when applied... The more aluminum the better thats what makes it so pricey.. If you wish i can have my guy do the coating for you as he is very good/reasonable...

Looks great. How did you get the wrinkle finish? Do you have a shop do it? Also did you ever consider getting it Extrude Honed?

wrinkle finish is a property of the powder itself. once it cures, it wrinkles

i do some powdercoating too, and if you powdercoat, then it is very easy to ceramic coat. spray it on using a spray gun with a relatively big tip, let it air dry, then cure it in the oven.

www.techlinecoatings.com is a good site for ceramic coat. also check out their liquid20 ... it allows you to apply powder as if it were paint!
