I have also checked the phone to make sure it is on. I leave the phone in the cup holder so the range of the phone from the stereo should not be a problem.
It’s frustrating to pay that much for an option on the car and it does not work well. Don’t even get me started on the crappie IPOD connection.
wait...from this, it sounds like you expect the bluetooth connection to remain even if you turn the car (and radio) completely off. the connection stays as long as the radio has power, but if you remove the key, that's it.

this is your phone. i had a samsung slider (it was purple *yech* and looked like an elephant suppository) that would do the same thing with a motorola headset. i have a friend who works at moto on these things and confirmed with multiple different moto phones that it was my samsung phone. dig through your phone's settings to see if there's some sort of bluetooth auto-off "feature" or take it to where you bought it and pitch a fit/ask for help.
