Transmission problems

So I got into my audi today and went to back up and I had no reverse. Then to add insult to injury the tiptronic seems to work only when it wants to. Drive works just fine and goes through all the gears with no problem. The two problems happened in the same day. My next question is; if the repairs are to expensive can i just go ahead and install a 5 speed. This is my first audi and I love the car, but I have no idea where to start.....Please help. Thanks

Juat about any car can be converted into a manual. I don't know what would be needed to get the job done, but I am sure others can chimme in to tell ya what you need. I know you won't need a new ECU though, as Vag Com can remedy that situation.

When you put the car in reverse does the indicator display -R- on the dashboard?
Also you might want the pull up the carpet on the passenger side and make sure the transmission module (which is on the floor under the carpet) isn't wet.

It really sounds like you have an electrical issue, anyone spill something into the gearshift?


Check under the carpet, and find a buddy with a vagcom it could be a bad transmission selector switch as well.

The multifunction switch is probably toast. Search here or audiworld and you should find info right away.
