Small GTG + DIY day? Real simple DIYs...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've been on the forum for a few months and never actually got to meet anyone yet. With the fall semester coming up in a month, I have a few simple things that I wanted to do to the car, but just never got around to doing it. So... what I'm suggesting is that perhaps we can get a small group of people together who want to do similar DIYs as I do.

    SUCH AS:
    CC mod for the headlights
    Brake caliper painting
^--other suggestions? I just listed those two because I want to do them

If someone wouldn't mind lending their driveway out for a day, that'd be swell! We could use mine, but it slopes pretty sharp!

I'd loan you my "end of the road" circle out here in Ashburn. I'm at the top of the hill and theres no other houses surrounding it. I take pictures and post it later.

    You could also:

    Debadge
Front Headrest mod (just did it last night, sweet)
    Black out grills

Like Clint said I would be down depending on what day and if there was some grilling also.. :)

Clint, wanna help me "upgrade" my suspension? I got a upgraded set of struts/springs for the same setup, just gotta swap those out. I'm sure I could do it myself, but then again, help would be appreciated. I also have a writeup now of a MKV so it should help a bit.

I'd like to repaint my calipers, install my blacked out grill, and other crap. I need more time in a day!

Phi, never heard back from your friend Sonny about using the Plasti-dip...did he ever get it done? I gave the paint to Jorge now since I didn't hear back after a few weeks.

Awesome. A lot of people mentioned grillin' and chillin. This will be a great day for us to get to know each other and get our cars to look better. If we can volunteer to bring a few things each (especially for those of you who will be asking for DIY help on their car) I'm sure we can make this more than successful.

Anyways, I'm thinking about painting my calipers black, and definitely wanting to do the CC mod. I plan on using the brush method instead of the can method for the calipers, and wanted to know if I still need to remove the calipers or not.

Oh, and probably doing a partial darintake mod (minus the cone filter, ask me why)

man this stuff is going to take a LONG while lol. brakes arent a quick thing... Everyone cant paint their calipers in 1 spot also, unless we can all just leave our cars lol

This is sounding promising.. but don't you have to let the calipers cure for 24 hours before driving on them... either way all the other stuff is do able and I'm down depending on what day... I too have most of these things done so helping out and chilling is cool with me..

Why do the brush method? From my personal experience when I did mine, just tape/bag off the areas you DON'T want to get painted and the surrounding areas so no paint gets on them.

I've also done a darintake mod too (minus the cone...which is probably why I don't have that weird WOOOSH noise)

Also, what days were you gents looking at? If its this week or next, count me out. (Birthday weekend 7/18-20 and 7/25-27 is beach weekend for me) I'll post the pic "open cul de sak" around my neighborhood here in Ashburn. There is supposedly a park and grill right in the center of my townhouse complex, I'll have to check into it.

My landlord is iffy about guest in her house. She doesn't mind having guest but I'm not allowed to feed with the food in our house, I guess its considered a "inhouse community" thing.

that cul de sak is tiny! .

as for calipers, i rattle canned mine. much quicker. i blocked everything off w/ aluminum foil. the paint sticks to the foil well and doesn't drip. a couple coats every 5-10 minutes...done!

You have facebook? I'll get you her email and you can check her out and opinionate.

No email porn for her, please!

Cul De Sak really does seem tiny in real life, but you can fit about 6-7, at most 10 S4s in there and its at the end of the road so most people don't really care (at least I don't think so).

Also...I found that plastic grocery bags with tape work just fine too...and its cheaper than using tin foil...also less glare (unless you're going for the double whammy...painted caliphers and a tan)

Does someone have a portable grill and will that be allowed in your neighborhood cul de sak? I could get my cc mod done too. I'll bring some chops and my small air compressor if anyone needs to do a boost leak test. I also have an unregistered vag-com, but it at least allows me to do the remote windows and door locks at 10mph if anyone wants that done.

We have enough people that want to do it, so let's set a date. Are we still looking for a spot to do it at?

Depending on the date, I'd like to come. If anyone could VAG-COM my S4 to pull the codes for my headlight contol issue and hook me up with remote windows, I'd definitely appreciate it!

Re: Small GTG + DIY day? Real simple DIYs...

I'm definitely down. How about Saturday, August 9th? I am going to the Audi Driving Experience on that Sunday at Summit Point, WV (9:30am). I'm looking for some help (tie rod end). I have a portable grill that I can bring. I'll bring the grill and be willing to put in some beer for some wrench help. Let me know.
