Problem - Air cuts off, then comes back on

Ok, twice I'm been in my car where the air has completely cut off (its on, but the blower cuts off, the bars go to zero), then it comes back on by itself. Any ideas if something is up?

On a side note, i've noticed with the increase in heat, when idling, my dash temp gauge (the external temp, not engine temp) is going up by sometimes +5 degrees from the actual temp. I'm assuming this is because of engine heat affecting it, but wanted assurance.

My AC does the same thing every couple of weeks in the summer (this is the 5th summer for me)... haven't seen the ext temp thing though
