srt4 intercooler (any chance?)

my friend is upgrading the intercooler on his srt4 and said he'll GIVE me his intercooler for FREE, the dimensions are 24x6x3 is there any chance in hell for this thing to fit behind a stock bumper?? from what i understand the stock peice is made by spearco. all i would have to buy is piping and clamps.

I would say for starters, look at the current off the shelf kits and see what their cores are like. inlet/out diameters, depth, height and width, the usual specs.

3" is really thick - it was a stretch to fit a 2.5" core behind the stock bumper and it barely fits. You could get away with it fairly easily if you removed your A/C condenser - not sure if you want to do that.

Since it's 6" tall, you could have it sit kind of low like mine (mine is very low) I scrape on curbs if I am not careful and it sucks. Check out some of the pictures in my gallery - my core is a CXRacing - I believe it is 7x28x2.5 or something like that.

if hes giving it to you for free then try it out but if not sell it on some forum and put that money towards a reall one

Not that the SRT-4 intercooler isn't a "real" intercooler, it just may not be a good fit...BUT - as was mentioned, you could always sell it. This guy is selling a CXRacing 2.5" core: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showpo...39&postcount=3 for $100.

I'm sure you could get it to work but it depends on how much you want to mess with it. The other thing to consider is that looking at the SRT-4 intercooler, the end tanks and pipe exits are at the "wrong" angle as opposed to the common setup on the A4 - you really have to take your car apart and see if the thing is going to work.

Only way to fit a 3" is to remove the a/c core or to hack the bumper so much that the core actually sticks out of the bumper. The issue is going to be the length of 24", it is going to be to long for how the bumper curves back on the ends. You will also have to tuck the fmic up since the bottom of the bumper also curves back, this means some of the core will have to sit behind the bumper support.


To give you an idea. Here is a picture of the 20" long 3" thick FMIC behind a stock bumper with the a/c core removed.





I sure hope you are running a BT or BAT for that size fmic, if not your going to actually decrease the amount of power your making since it will cause the lag and make the turbo work harder to force the air thru that large of a core.

What he said. I took a look at an SRT4's I/C when a buddy of mine swapped his out. Half a dozen people wanted to mock it up top see if it'll fit. Including 240SX's, FC-RX7's, etc. That intercooler is made specifically for that car. The endtanks are just wrong for our cars.

I have a 28x7.5x2.5 I/C as well. It can fit with some trimming, but there's no need to have it hang that low. Hot side the A/C lines are in the way which makes piping a bitch, but you still want the inlet/outlets on the bottom. I wouldn't even attempt to fit a 3" core behind the stock bumper, unless you're willing to part with your A/C. I'm not going to use that I/C, I'm going to use something smaller. If you want it, PM me, I'll give you a good deal.

Here's my car w/ the bumper off, you can see the A/C lines are in the way of the hotside. I also don't have the middle 30" of my bumper support either. It was removed to make room for the I/C.

If you were good at welding aluminum, you could cut of the drivers side end tank and weld a different one on... Then it would work, already tried this...

Yes if it is 6" tall the over all volume of the fmic isn't too big, its slightly larger then the ER sport. Problem is fitting that size behind the actual stock bumper. The ER sport will not fit behind the stock bumper and it is shorter (22x6.5x3 with end tanks) and 351 cubic inch. So it is 81 cubic inches or 23% larger then the ER sport.

for all the haters sayng 3" cores will not really fit...this is my precision 750 core i forget the dimensions but it fits like a glove and if ur going to be at waterfest this will be there too with the same bumper but a new look...

No one is hating so I dont know why you even say that. Thanks for the pictures because you just proved that it does not sit "behind" the bumper seeing that you had to remove parts of the bumper just so the core could sit outside the bumper.

In the end, it just doesnt seem WORTH it unless you are the ultimate handy man and can weld aluminum, and be very patient with the front bumper. Id just take the easy route and buy a smaller intercooler and not hassle yourself over it.

ya, it looks like thats whats gonna happen, i'll still take it and sell it on ebay, and put that money towards another one these florida summers are heat-soaking me like a mofo.......
