    3.0 magnaflow question...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hey guys im looking into putting an exhaust system on my 2003 3.0 6 spd, but they get a bit pricey for the cat back systems, i like the sounds of the magnaflow 14851, and i was doing some research about the topic and came across a few suggestions of removing the resonators, by doing the 14851 mufflers with no resonators would that sound ok? and which would be more likely to help with mpgs, resonators or no resonators?

this is just the most recent thread...

take it to a muffler shop to have them weld it on.

do a cat back. i decided i wanted a resonator, because of the raspy-ness. its pretty mellow sounding now, but i also have an x-pipe.

i did 2 mufflers, 2 res, 1 x-pipe, 3" piping to 2.5" piping, and otd, was under $600 and a case of beer to the local muffler shop guy. (that includes paying the muffler shop guy and the beer was a tip)

hey, thanks for answering me on the other thread . Did you mean that it was $600 for parts and labor altogether?

I got the Magnaflows 14851 and if you take off the resonator is going to sound like crap, It wont sound like an audi anymore, so just put on the mufflers, sounds alot better.

    yes and no.

remove the resonator, and it sounds like @SS!!! but don't remove it, and you leave in the MOST constrictive part of the exh on a 3.0.

i'd remove it, and put in 2 resonators. I think it sounds great!

3oh, what exactly would putting less restrictive resonators on the car do? i mean obviously more air flow, but would it add a little power and maybe be a little better on gas?

it should be a bit better on power, esp at the top end. yes a bit better on fuel, and better throttle response.

for me. i'm not sure, as I did the full exh, but there is a dead spot around 3500rpms. mine is for the most part gone. my guess is that the resonator is a part of that problem.

as far as fuel economy goes, which would be ther better improvement if you will, the magnaflow mufflers or a complete catback kit?

    Re: 3.0 magnaflow question...

either way, you're not talking a big difference anyhow. a single day of driving just slightly faster/more aggressive would make more of a fuel economy saving than picking one over the other.

my suggestion is doing a full cat back, whether you do it custom or as a pre made system is up to you.
