Misfire possibly? I would start with the cheapest fix first- maybe you just need new spark plugs..

Seriously though - your car has BOTH coilpacks AND Spark Plugs.

The coilpacks sit atop the spark plugs.

Then maybe you should wait until you do have $500 or you might end up spending $5000 on a new motor...

Oh come on, you did in fact say your car did not have spark plugs, only coilpacks. You shouldn't get bent out of shape when someone makes a crack at ya over a funny claim/comment. You have to agree that most people who do not think their car has spark plugs should probably leave it to a shop. Just saying... No big deal though, a thick skin suits one well around here.

    Re: boost skippage??

You dont have to buy a new chip... A used one would work just as well... 300 or so..
That or turn your boost back to stock...

Chill out man. Honestly, my intent was comedy, not dickishness (ha!). AND I gave you the answer - or rather made a correction to your statement about not having spark plugs.

I am not trying to prove anything on here or anywhere else on the internet.

As an aside, and not to be a dick, but can you point me in the direction of a gasoline-powered car that does not have spark plugs? Cuz I can't think of one.

OK - maybe that was dickish...

    Re: boost skippage??

    Now as a serious response:

Trying to cheat and get a manual boost controller + Diode CAN work, but can also bring about very unreliable and inconsistent results. It's next to impossible to troubleshoot an issue like that without being in the car because MBC's are so finicky. Believe me - I TRIED to run an MBC with no ECU upgrade on my car, and I have an AEB - no Diode mod is going to help me. The best I could do was get 10-11 PSI out of it, but God forbid the temperature changed or the air became more or less dense and I would hit the hard fuel cut. It was just not enjoyable. You never knew how the car was going to react when you got on the gas.

The bottom line here is that if you are going to try and save a buck (or 3-500), and use the MBC+Diode mod you are going to have to fiddle with it to get it anywhere close to "consistent". Also - what kind of MBC are you using? Are you using a bleed type or a Ball & Spring? This may also affect your results.

After messing around with it forever and trying all sorts of low buck solutions like getting a 5-Bar FPR in conjunction with the MBC - I finally just ended up buying a used APR 91 Chip from someone on here or Passat World I can't remember. I still use the MBC to squeeze out a little more boost and to change the boost curve a bit, but the car is much more predictable with the chip - and now I'm boosting 18-20PSI without problem.
