central locking pump replaced locks still dont work. NOW WHAT?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i did the diy on replacing the pump itself instead of replacing the the whole piece so i dont have to worry about reprogramming.

i tried using the remote to see if the locks would work but all i get is a low pitch buzz noise for like 2 seconds and nothing happens after that.

i did notice when i put in the middle connector there was some corrosion going on. cleaned it up a bit and nothing changed.

anyone have any ideas? what should i try next?

Getting suction from the vacuum line connections during the buzz?

Might have gotten a bad pump.

well when i took it apart nothing looked bad or out of the ordinary. come to think of it. i think that noise is from the aftermarket alarm i have on the car when i bought it. how can you tell if its bad or not? i took it apart and everything looks fine. nothing shattered or anything like that.

I'm not sure exactly what you did to the pump (you changed the pump mechanism within the component?)

At any rate, are there any fault codes from the pump component? If you run the pump with the vacuum tubes disconnected, do you feel the air being sucked or blown? Usually when the pump has failed, it runs for 2-10 seconds, then gives up and throws a leak fault code.

Did you clear the code? You should get a wind for over 5-10 seconds that shows it's trying to pump.. If you had a code due to failure previously then that will probably not pump until you clear it.

Check Engine light won't go on for fault codes in the central locking pump. You should use VAG to see what codes the pump has in it, however.

Re: central locking pump replaced locks still dont work. NOW WHAT?

got it vaged i just realized i had an aftermarket system tied into the stock system. so when we vaged it it couldnt connect with the central locking system. i was told maybe to try wiring back the old system and see what i can do with that.

-should i go along that route?
-what are 96 a4 locking systems equipped with? (i know they're totally different from 97+)
-or should i stop being a cheap bastard and just buy an aftermarket alarm system.

I would take the aftermarket alarm out, a lot of the European cars for some reason don't like additions like that. Its the best thing to start with. What made you want to change the pump in the first place?

Re: central locking pump replaced locks still dont work. NOW WHAT?

Theres supposed to be a total of three electrical connectors to the module.

oh yah, BTW, manual says to hook up the middle one with 6 pins last. < for best results

Re: central locking pump replaced locks still dont work. NOW WHAT?

ok i know about the 3 connectors but way before that is were the aftermarket alarm is with wires cut and spliced off from a brown connector under the rear seat on the pass. side. i can hook all the wires back up to the connector but i dont know where the other side of that is so i can complete the system

Does that connector look like other ones on your car? Im thinking it could be from the aftermarket box install.

Re: central locking pump replaced locks still dont work. NOW WHAT?

i checked all the fuses. that brown connector had wires from the stock harness cut off and put into the aftermarket. so the brown connector SHOULD be a stock connector. it could also vary from years. i have a 96 a4 its different in my friends 97 a4

Baaad aftermarket alarm people. Even a pinout wont help much in this case.
Some of the wires are color coded but not all. How many wires did they cut?

Trip to the junkyard might be educational here. Has to be a bunch up in San Jose, if you uhhh know the way.

That def sucks man. If you had a diagram, it could be pieced back together.
I would mosdef check the salvage yard. Gotta love those places.
